  • DISPUTED DEFICIT: Sheriff doesn’t agree with auditor

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- In one of his final rounds of audits before leaving office, Adam Edelen released the financial examination for Bullitt County Sheriff David Greenwell.

    And the number one issue revolved around a familiar topic -- the deficit Greenwell’s office owes the state of Kentucky.

    When Greenwell took office in 2011, Bullitt County’s population numbers triggered a new way of running the offices of sheriff and county clerk.

  • Don’t look to buy alcohol on Christmas in Mt. Washington

    MOUNT WASHINGTON— Businesses were paid a visit by the ghost of ordinances past on Christmas Eve.

    After a local business posted on social media that it would be open on Christmas Day, new Alcoholic Beverage Control Administrator Brent Wheeler contacted the business to confirm they knew that, according to an ordinance passed in 2003, the sale of alcohol on Christmas Day was prohibited in Mount Washington.

    According to Wheeler, the manager said that his call was the first time he had heard of the rule in their many years of business.

  • Chapeze Lane pulled from city agenda

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Residents opposed to a rezoning request on Chapeze Lane may be able to relax for the time being.

    Efforts to get the property owned by George Miller and Miller Enterprises annexed and rezoned to IG General Industrial by the Shepherdsville City Council were derailed on Tuesday.

    Bullitt Fiscal Court did not allow a request by Miller’s attorney, Tammy Baker, to have the vote on two tracts withdrawn on Tuesday.

  • City annexes property despite pleas from area; rezoning now in question

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- The corporate boundaries for the city of Shepherdsville expanded by 131 acres off Chapeze Lane.

    However, an attorney representing residents in the community might advise them to not redraw their city maps just yet.

    By a 5-0 vote, the Shepherdsville City Council approved the annexation of property owned by George Miller and Miller Enterprises.

    The decision was made at a special meeting Monday morning.

  • SHERIFF: Money YES; clock still ticking

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Bullitt County sheriff Dave Greenwell received the first part of his agreement to continue providing law enforcement past mid-March.

    However, he didn’t get the second piece of the agreement, so the clock is still ticking.

    On Tuesday, Bullitt Fiscal Court voted unanimously to approve an additional $250,000 to the sheriff’s office for his 2016 budget.

    Greenwell was to present his budget at the Dec. 15 fiscal court meeting but the discussion was tabled due to a lengthy agenda.

  • Contract Valid: Fire district to appeal judge’s ruling

     CLERMONT -- The contract signed between the Southeast Bullitt Fire Protection District and the Southeast Bullitt Fire and Rescue Department Inc. in 2013 is valid.

    That is according to a ruling from Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress.

    The latest dagger thrown in a year-long battle between the two entities will appealed.

    On Tuesday, Burress handed down his ruling in a lawsuit surrounding the Jan. 2, 2015, decision by the fire district board to decide the contract was invalid.

  • Sunview residents like nature, quiet; oppose rezoning of 64-acre tract

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Residents often move to Bullitt County to get away from things which are common in big cities.

    Many of the residents along Sunview Drive mentioned that same thing to members of the Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission recently.

    However, despite their concerns, it appears they might have a few new neighbors in the future.

    C&M Renovations received a favorable recommendation from the planning commission to rezone 64 acres from Agriculture and Stream Valley Reserve to R-1 Residential.

  • City will meet on zonings, annex

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- The notice has been posted and the legal requirements met for the Shepherdsville City Council to hold a special meeting on Monday, Jan. 4.

    The 9:30 a.m. meeting will be held to consider three items involving property owned by George Miller and Miller Enterprises.

    First, the council will hear a second reading on an ordinance where the property owner is requesting annexation.

    The public can speak on that request.

    There will be no discussion on two first readings for rezoning on the properties off Chapeze Lane.
