• Special meeting Tuesday to deal with two issues

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- It appears there is a good chance that the Shepherdsville City Council will meet on Tuesday morning to deal with two pressing issues.

    The city has deadlines approaching on soliciting bids for the Alpha Way project off of Cedar Grove Road, as well as accepting the flood maps by April 5 so that the community can remain in the flood insurance program.

    The council has not met since Feb. 9. At that time, Brian James was selected to serve as mayor until after the November general election.

    1.    Local consumers are receiving postcards from the Compliance Division. The postcard says to “please call immediately” to avoid potential fees or penalties. A local consumer said he called and was told to pay $70 in order to “clear up a matter.” This is a scam. 

  • Despite objections on traffic, fiscal court approves rezoning for homes off Sunview

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Despite a number of residents in opposition, the Bullitt Fiscal Court voted unanimously to rezone property off Sunview Drive.

    C&M Renovations won approval to rezone 64 acres from Stream Valley Reserve and Agricultural to R-1 Residential.

    Depending on approvals from the health department, there could be up to 40 homes built on the tract, which runs along the Salt River.

    However, attorney Eric Farris said that number could be much lower.

  • Future of tourist-related protections on Highway 245 still unknown with planners

     CLERMONT -- Should there be a set of regulations to control future growth along the Highway 245 corridor?

    There has been some discussion over the past six months.

    However, before the measure is voted upon by the Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission, vice chairman Larry Watkins said he wants to see consensus among the property owners.

    At one point, setbacks from 200-500 feet along Highway 245 on new development has been discussed.

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- There will be no interruption of law enforcement from the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office as an accord was reached Wednesday morning.

  • Court to consider deficit plan Wednesday morning

      SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Will Bullitt Fiscal Court members agree with a state plan to alleviate the deficit incurred by the sheriff’s office from 2012-15?

    That will be answered on Wednesday during a 10 a.m. special meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

    In question is how the $638,000 deficit incurred by sheriff Dave Greenwell’s office during that four-year period will be paid off.

    During a meeting in Frankfort, state revenue officials said it was the sheriff’s responsibility. That is an opinion he does not share.

  • Negotiating with state part of plan to allow pool to reopen this year

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- The swimming pool next to Bullitt Central High School is the most heavily used in the county.

    From open swimming to pool parties to swim lessons, the pool is a major part of the aquatics program managed by the Bullitt County Family YMCA.

    However, an inspection of the pool last June by Jan Brown of the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services has rendered the facility closed until repairs are made.

  • Still no quorum for Shepherdsville

      For a second straight meeting, the Shepherdsville City Council did not meet.

    Only two councilmembers  -- Dana James and Gloria Taft -- were present when mayor Brian James called the meeting to order at 6:35pm.

    Councilmember Ashley Bratcher had a work conflict. Councilmembers Larry Hatfield, Bernie Brown and Randy Hammond did not attend as litigation has been filed over the Feb. 9 selection of Brian James as the new mayor.

  • Fox Chase tax rates to remain steady this year

     FOX CHASE - They won’t make quite as much money, but the Fox Chase City Council agreed to remain steady with tax rates.

    Real property rates will stay at 13.88 cents per $100 of property, while personal property rates and public service company rates remain at 17.45 cents.

    Due to an increase of about $177,000 in Homestead exemptions for some city residents, city attorney Mark Edison said the tax base continues to decrease.

  • Board to entertain creation of separate tourist center

     SHEPHERDSVILLE— Tourist information centers are meant to be places that those unfamiliar with an area can go and learn all they need to know.

    According to Bullitt County tourist director Troy Beam, the current location of the agency makes it difficult to provide that service.
