Nichols Elementary can build with $5,000 grant from Lowe's

NICHOLS - With $5,000 from Lowe's Toolbox for Education Program, expect the landscape around Nichols Elementary School to change dramatically.
Thanks to Principal Sheri Hamilton and District Grant Writer Juliann Vachon, students and staff at the small western Bullitt County school are eager for spring to arrive so they can spruce up the grounds.

Advice on how to be better prepared to take ACT exams

FRANKFORT - On March 6, juniors attending Kentucky public high schools will take the ACT, a national college entrance exam. The ACT assesses students’ ability to perform college-level work. Scores may also qualify students for a bonus award through the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program.

To do their best on the ACT, students should follow these tips from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), which administers the KEES program:

Overdale’s Toll one of 30 parents to graduate from leadership program

LEXINGTON, KY – Overdale Elementary School parent, Jennifer Toll of Shepherdsville, was one of 30 parents from across Kentucky who graduated from the Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

An initiative of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, this program is designed and implemented in partnership with the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science and The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University.

UPDATE: Schools will not outsource custodial duties

UPDATE (02/19): Bullitt County Public Schools have made the decision to discontinue its pursuit of seeking outside companies for custodial duties in county schools.

A discussion at Tuesday's school board meeting will not take place as a result of this decision.
