  • BCPS reaches proficiency

Bullitt County has achieved a first-proficiency in the Unbridled Learning testing program.

See all the facts and figures and a full story in Monday's edition of The Pioneer News and on www.pioneernews.net.

  • Science on Wheels

Students at Cedar Grove and Mount Washington Elementary schools were recently visited by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Mobile Science Center. The program travels to more than 50 schools a year with the target on fourth graders, although it is also presented to students throughout the eighth grade.

  • Grants approved for local schools

     1. Safe Schools Coordinator Jaime Goldsmith requests permission to accept a donation from the Bullitt County Partners in Prevention in the form of 555 nine-panel drug screens which will allow the drug testing program to operate as in previous years. This donation will be in the amount of $9,990.00.

  • Eastside in running for teacher lounge makeover

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Eastside Middle School is looking for a makeover.

Well one for the teachers that is.

The school was nominated for SummitMedia’s Ultimate Teachers' Lounge contest and recently made it to the finals.

SummitMedia owns radio stations: Lite 106.9, 107.7 The Eagle, New Country Q103.1 and Country Legends 103.9.

In fact that’s how Eastside Middle seventh grade social studies teacher Peggy Newkirk heard about the contest.

This is in reference to the 2012-2013 board approved donation and comprehensive grant list. As noted in the procedure below, a principal has the authority to accept a donation of $500 or less. Those donations are documented at the school level.

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Beth Vachon has been around education for a long time.

Thirty-two years to be exact. And in that time, she’s seen many trends in teaching and learned some lessons of her own, but one thing has always stayed the same: her love for children.

“Laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, you got to laugh,” she said. “You’re around kids they’re funny, enjoy it. It’s one of the perks (of the job).”

  • New school program to deal with suicide

SHEPHERDSVILLE - In an effort to deter suicide through intervention, Bullitt County Public Schools are implementing a program at middle and high school levels called More Than Sad.
