  • Deatsville, Chapeze to be resurfaced

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The list is not long and magistrates quickly approved the recommendations on how to spend funds from the Rural Secondary Program.

    With just over $800,000 to spend, state transportation cabinet official David Arnold recommended to resurfacing projects.

    One would resurface 5.8 miles of Deatsville Road from end to end. The cost would be $558,000.

    The other project would be to resurface the entire 2.5 miles of Chapeze Road at a cost of $247,000.

  • Storm costs over $180,000 in county

    SHEPEHRDSVILLE - Various agencies are putting together numbers to show the costs associated with the recent ice storm.

    And, for Bullitt County government, it looks like the cost will be around $180,000.

    Emergency Management Agency director Mike Phillips said he expects the county to have over 87 percent of that cost covered through the federal and state governments.

    The county has been able to purchase a $36,000 chipper and a $15,000 generator for the Mount Elmira tower, which is used to keep radio frequencies operating.

  • Mother, daughter indicted for fraud

    MOUNT WASHINGTON ee" Over a 10-year period, the American Red Cross may have been defrauded over $133,000 for respite care that was never administered.

    And a pair of Mount Washington women has been indicted in federal court and could face up to 30 years in prison.

    On Monday, a federal grand jury indicted Sylvia Rednour and Jennifer Roby on charges of conspiracy, mail fraud and forgery.

    They were taken into custody on Wednesday and housed in the Oldham County Jail.

  • Five arrested in meth raid

    LEBANON JUNCTION - An investigation into activity at a remote home off Collings Hill Road has resulted in five arrests over a 24-hour period.

    The Bullitt County Drug Task Force received information about the residence at 1064 Collings Hill Road on Tuesday night.

    According to director Kenny Hardin, detectives arrived at the scene and no one was home. However, before they left, a vehicle driven by Grace M. Metcalf, 39, of Lebanon Junction, arrived.

    He felt she might have lived at the home at one time or another.

  • MW police uncover adult abuse case in Twelve Oaks subdivision

    MOUNT WASHINGTON -- An unusual case involving the alleged abuse and neglect of two developmentally disabled individuals has landed two men in jail.

    Daniel Thomas Clemons, 57, of Mount Washington, and Mark E. Heitzman, 44, of Louisville, were arrested by Mount Washington police Friday after an illegitimate adult care-taking business was discovered, according to a MWPD media release.

    "(Clemons) was running a business out of place that he didn't even have a business license for," said police chief Tom Rosselli.

  • Agencies await stimulus decisions

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The state of Kentucky is supposed to get millions of dollars from the federal stimulus program.

    Bullitt County officials are expecting some of that money to filter down to the local level.

    But while Metro Louisville officials seem to have a pretty good idea what might be coming its way, Bullitt County officials have heard nothing from Frankfort.

    Keith Davis, superintendent for the Bullitt County Public School System, sent in a list with $31 million worth of projects.

  • Guthrie enjoying time spent so far in Washington despite office

    PIONEER VILLAGE - Brett Guthrie claims to have the 435th best office in the U.S. House of Representatives.

    There are only 435 members of the House but Brett Guthrie is proud to be serving in the U.S. Congress no matter that he was the last congressman to select his office space.

    Guthrie was elected in November to fill the vacant seat caused by U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis’ decision not to run for re-election.

    “It is an interesting time in Washington,” Guthrie told those gathered for the Bullitt County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

  • Work on Highway 44 needed; timing still unknown

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – The first phase of a major Highway 44 road project is progressing, but it’s impossible to tell if or when the plans will come to fruition.

    A lack of funding could cause the proposed enhancements for Highway 44 between Kings Church Road and Bardstown Road to still be years away.

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet conducted a public meeting Tuesday to gather additional  feedback on the plans, which include up to five lanes in front of Bullitt East High School and three lanes in lesser traveled areas.

  • Three arrested in meth raid; child removed

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Three people have been arrested and a child sent to a family member after a home was raided early Wednesday morning.

    According to Kenny Hardin, director of the Bullitt County Drug Task Force, a search warrant was received for a home in the 500 Block of South Preston Highway in Salt River.

    The task force, joined by members of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department, found ingredients needed to manufacture methamphetamine.

    Hardin said officers arrived about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday as three adults were prepared items needed to make the illegal drug.

  • Student confesses to prank, faces charges

    HEBRON ESTATES – A North Bullitt High School student confessed to a dangerous prank and will be charged with arson.

    The father of a 17-year-old North Bullitt senior delivered a letter of confession from the student to the Bullitt County Sheriffs Office Monday morning.

    Chief deputy Danny Thompson said the student would be charged with arson first-degree and tried in juvenile court.

    Jaime Goldsmith, Safe and Drug Free Schools director for Bullitt County Public Schools, said the student would be recommended for expulsion.
