  • Police warn of email scam

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Shepherdsville Police Department are alerting the area of a recent email scam.

    There is an email being circulated with a subject line of UNCC REFUND PAYMENT FOR YOU.

    The email states that they are affiliated with the Barack Obama Campaign to Assist Scammed Individuals In The Settlement of Disputes Through Zenith Bank Plc.

    It is asking people to contact their representative in Nigeria to give him your full name, telephone number and mailing address so that they can send a payment to you.

  • Council asked to look at civil service

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was passed several years ago with much discussion but little fanfare from the public.

    But since its adoption, the Shepherdsville civil service ordinance has raised much comment and has been a key point of discussion in two elections.

    Councilman Larry Hatfield would like his fellow board members to study the current ordinance to determine if changes are needed.

    Under the current ordinance, all city employees, including department heads, are protected from termination without the recourse of a hearing before a three-member civil service board.

  • Sewer expansion projects stopped

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The hopes of extending a sewer line south of the city limits and expanding its current treatment plant met with a major roadblock Monday night.

    After looking since last August at a project to bring service to places such as the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont and the proposed community and technical college on Highway 245, Shepherdsville city councilmembers somberly announced Monday that the $20 million project was dead.

    In the last of many executive sessions, the council discussed the matter for just over an hour.

  • Close call

    HILLVIEW - A collision between a pickup truck and a train snarled rush hour traffic Thursday morning.

    Hillview Police were called at 7:41 a.m. when a 1992 blue and white Ford F-150 pickup truck, headed westbound on Brooks Hill Road, collided with the train and wound up south of the crossing near Highway 1020.

    The driver, Bernardo Trevino of Louisville, was not injured. Hillview Police Ofc. Darren Vires said a CSX train engineer reported that Trevino left the vehicle just seconds prior to impact.

  • Seniors want funding

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - They had a very clear message for state Rep. Linda Belcher.

    They wanted her to do whatever was possible to make sure funding continued to keep the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency’s senior center in Shepherdsville open.

    Two dozen senior citizens recently met with Belcher as she gathered input on things she needs to address as the General Assembly returns for its short off-year session in Frankfort.

    Belcher, who is on the senior citizens committee, said she needed the input to better do her job representing them.

  • MW sewer rates could go WAY up

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – The state is mandating that city officials make improvements to its sewage treatment facility.

    But Mount Washington city officials are still trying to figure out how they will pay for the multi-million dollar project.

    Under state order the Mt. Washington city council needs to have expansion and improvements in place by 2010.    

    City engineer Dave Derrick informed the council during a special public meeting that projected budgets showed the city around $1.35 short of paying for all the necessary improvements.

  • Police catch robber in the act

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – A Bullitt County man is in custody after allegedly trying to rob the same business twice within one week.

    And two Shepherdsville police officers are on paid administrative leave that is customary when a shooting is involved.

    According to SPD Sgt. Ken Bernardi, the suspect was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

  • LJ burglary suspect turns himself in

    LEBANON JUNCTION - A burglary suspect turned himself over to officials Wednesday morning.

    Howard Adams II, 32, of Elizabeth, Ind., reported to the Bullitt County Sheriffs office. He was questioned, arrested and taken to the Bullitt county Detention Center.

    Adams relinquished many stolen items, including numerous rifles, through his attorney, Joe Wantland.

    The rifles returned to police were taken from the home of Steven Hodge on S. Preston Highway near Lebanon Junction.

  • Leaders want county needs addressed

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Facing a multi-million deficit in the state budget, the likelihood that funding for local projects may be slim at best.

    However, in her first year in office, state Rep. Linda Belcher met with local officials to see about some of their wants and needs.

    Despite meeting on a snowy night, several local officials met with Belcher to talk about some of their concerns.

    Bullitt County has sent its stimulus package to the governor in case federal dollars are made available for local projects.

  • Hasch gets 2 years for shooting

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - After deliberating for eight hours into Thursday evening, an eight-woman, four-man jury found Janice Hasch guilty of reckless homicide in the April 14, 2008, shooting death of her husband, Jerry.

    And the jury spent another two hours on Friday before recommending a sentence of two years on the conviction.

    Final sentencing in the case will occur on March 6.

    Janice Hasch, 58, remains free on a $300,000 bond awaiting sentencing.

    She was originally charged with murder and could have received a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.
