  • I-65 cable barriers scheduled for installation

    The Department of Highways District 5 Office announced temporary shoulder closures on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County between mile points 109 and 116.

    Interior shoulder closures are possible daily as part of the installation of median cable barriers along this section of I-65.

    The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.

  • Bullitt Central students evacuated Friday morning

    A fire alarm resulted in a temporary evacuation of Bullitt Central High School on Friday.

    In an email letter distributed by principal Christy Coulter, the school was evacuated around 8:35 a.m. Due to the extreme cold weather, Shepherdsville Fire units allowed students to wait in the gymnasium.

    A heat sensor unit activated the fire alarm. Students returned to their classrooms once the unit was reset.

    Coulter said students were not in danger at any time. She credited both students and teachers with following proper procedure throughout the incident.

  • Proposed fee could affect all development

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It has been a long process reworking the planning regulations that date back nearly 40 years.

    And revising the subdivision plans to conform with the federally-mandated clean water act hasn’t been much easier.

    Before a public hearing is held on the new subdivision regulations, it appears the Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission has a lot of different opinions to consider.

    The biggest point of contention continues to be the impact fee proposed for any future development.

  • Right to Life chapter to start in Bullitt County Thursday

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Next week marks the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion in the United States.

    Since that decision over 50 million babies have been legally aborted nationwide. The topic of abortion remains a hot issue throughout the country.

    The Kentucky Right to Life Association, based in Louisville, is a volunteer, non-profit, pro-life organization with 15 chapters statewide. KRLA hopes to start a new chapter in Bullitt County.

  • Schools OK this year if funds do get cut by state

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt County Public Schools superintendent Keith Davis would be satisfied if the local districts were receiving the full funding they are entitled to by the state of Kentucky.

    That is not happening. And there is some belief that school districts will be asked to accept a 4 percent funding cut on top of that.

    However, the latest discussions in Frankfort seem to reveal that the school systems won’t be facing such drastic cuts.

  • Driver injured in Thursday accident

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A Louisville man was airlifted to a hospital on Thursday evening.

    The Kentucky State Police responded to a one-vehicle accident around 7 p.m. on Thursday on Kings Church Road near Mount Washington.

    According to the KSP, William Thomas, 43, of Louisville, was northbound on Kings Church Road when he ran off the right side of the road and then overcorrected.

    When he re-entered the roadway, he overcorrected and left the pavement on the left side and the vehicle overturned, ejecting Thomas through the passenger side window.

  • One arrested on Sunday blaze; arson charged

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A man has been charged with intentionally setting his home on fire on Sunday afternoon.

    According to Det. Buddy Stump of the Mount Washington Police Department, Larry W. Sepulvado, 27, is charged with one count of arson and 18 counts of wanton endangerment.

    Stump said the police were called out about 5:11 p.m. on Sunday to assist the Mount Washington Fire Department at 565 Heritage Way.

    While rare that police are called out, Stump said there was something firefighters felt was suspicious at Sepulvado's home.

    No one was injured.

  • Robison closes out 11 years of growth on Bullitt School Board

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was a bit ironic that during his final meeting as a member of the Bullitt County Public School Board, Mike Robison would be voting on something he lobbied for 17 years ago.

    The Bullitt County Public School Board voted to approve the purchase of property for the new Brooks Elementary off Brooks Hill Road.

    For Robison, who elected to not run for another term on the board, was part of a group concerned about the safety of Brooks Elementary students and staff back in 1991.

    The interchange was growing and a truck stop had opened next to the school.

  • MW elections to have non-partisan fields

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – Democrat, republican, independent or otherwise – a new ordinance passed just in time for three new council members to take office has removed, at least on paper, partisanship from future city elections.

    The Mount Washington City Council voted unanimously at a meeting Monday to pass the ordinance which establishes nonpartisan elections without primaries for the offices of mayor and city council.

    Councilman Brent Wheeler was absent from the meeting due to illness.
