  • One arrested on Sunday blaze; arson charged

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A man has been charged with intentionally setting his home on fire on Sunday afternoon.

    According to Det. Buddy Stump of the Mount Washington Police Department, Larry W. Sepulvado, 27, is charged with one count of arson and 18 counts of wanton endangerment.

    Stump said the police were called out about 5:11 p.m. on Sunday to assist the Mount Washington Fire Department at 565 Heritage Way.

    While rare that police are called out, Stump said there was something firefighters felt was suspicious at Sepulvado's home.

    No one was injured.

  • Robison closes out 11 years of growth on Bullitt School Board

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was a bit ironic that during his final meeting as a member of the Bullitt County Public School Board, Mike Robison would be voting on something he lobbied for 17 years ago.

    The Bullitt County Public School Board voted to approve the purchase of property for the new Brooks Elementary off Brooks Hill Road.

    For Robison, who elected to not run for another term on the board, was part of a group concerned about the safety of Brooks Elementary students and staff back in 1991.

    The interchange was growing and a truck stop had opened next to the school.

  • MW elections to have non-partisan fields

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – Democrat, republican, independent or otherwise – a new ordinance passed just in time for three new council members to take office has removed, at least on paper, partisanship from future city elections.

    The Mount Washington City Council voted unanimously at a meeting Monday to pass the ordinance which establishes nonpartisan elections without primaries for the offices of mayor and city council.

    Councilman Brent Wheeler was absent from the meeting due to illness.

  • Man burned in Monday house blaze

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - One man was severely injured in a blaze Monday afternoon off Bardstown Road near Cox’s Creek.

    Firefighters from Mount Washington and Southeast Bullitt were called to the scene at 737 Deerwood Road just after 3 p.m. on Monday.

    Smoke could be seen from miles away as it billowed above the hills.

    When emergency workers arrived from the fire departments, as well as Bullitt County EMS and the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department, one man appeared to be injured from the blaze.

  • Monarchs return to help CASA raise funds for advocacy program

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program continues to make strides in the local court system.

    The CASA organization helps children involved in the court system that do not otherwise have a say in their own future. CASA volunteers look out for each child’s best interests.

    Since its first volunteer case in 2005, 29 Bullitt County CASA have assisted 89 area children in finding better homes and life situations.

  • Burglaries on rise, indictments charge several on theft cases

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - While the number of methamphetamine labs have hit a record pace, the number of burglaries have also risen in Bullitt County in 2008.

    Several individuals were among those indicted by the Bullitt County Grand Jury for theft-related charges.

    *Jason L. Alderman and Lindsay A. Slawson were indicted for complicity to burglary and complicity to theft by unlawful taking over $300.

    According to the indictment, the pair was armed with a deadly weapon on Sept. 6, 2008, when they entered a residence. While there, they took property over $300 in value.

  • Zoneton looks for some'body' to be on board

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - For at least the third time, Bullitt County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts has unsuccessfully attempted to name a new member of the Zoneton Fire Board of Trustees.

    At this stage, fire chief Rob Orkies is asking Bullitt Fiscal Court members for a name that they could live with.

    Magistrate Joe Laswell hopes that could be done at the Jan. 6 meeting.

    Zoneton trustee Bill Washburn passed away earlier this year.

  • Three arrested in meth lab near Dixie Highway

    WEST POINT - Three individuals were arrested early Tuesday morning as part of a record 50th methamphetamine drug bust in Bullitt County.

    Bullitt County Drug Task Force director Kenny Hardin said a resident in the Lake Louisa mobile home park called central dispatch about a bad chemical order coming from a structure in the area.

    Upon arrival, a member of the drug task force found an active methamphetamine lab had been knocked over. Nichols Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene and several trailers in the area were evacuated, according to Hardin.

  • Fire strikes Red Cross, Senior Citizen facility

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A weekend fire resulted in damages to the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency Senior Life Enrichment Center facility.

    Shepherdsville Fire units responded to a call at the Senior Center at 7:48 a.m. Monday morning. The center is located at 214 Frank E. Simon Ave., in the rear of the Bullitt/Spencer American Red Cross building next to the Bullitt County Judicial Center.

    Shepherdsville Chief Brad Whitaker said an MPCAA discovered smoke throughout the building Monday morning and called firefighters.
