  • City names meeting room for long-time clerk

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Family and friends of former Shepherdsville city clerk Neva Ward shared smiles and tears as the city hall council chambers were re-dedicated in Ward’s honor.

    A new plaque is now displayed in the chambers officially declaring the area as Neva Ward Hall.

    Ward served as city clerk for six mayors between 1976 and 2000.

  • Health Department thrives under Fitzgibbons' 22 years of leadership

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Welcome to Bullitt County and, by the way, your first day on the job entails asking Bullitt Fiscal Court to adopt a new tax on the people.

    Well, for Ned Fitzgibbons, that first day may not have been successful as the first full-time director of the Bullitt County Public Health Department. But the next 22-plus years were definitely more than simply a success.

  • Train settlement claims due Nov. 28

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Where were you on Jan. 16, 2007?

    If you were within 3.5 miles of the site of the train derailment in Brooks you might be eligible to receive a part of a $3 million class action settlement fund approved by U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell.

    However, if you want to be part of the class action group that could receive from $115 to $574, you must sign up by Nov. 28, 2008.

  • County saving dollars on bills after analysis

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – When Bullitt County officials took a company up on an offer to find ways to save money on its telecommunications, no one knew the final result.

    After a year, it appears the county will save about $27,000 annually.

    Mike Fallot of Ecomtek spoke recently to Bullitt Fiscal Court members on the savings found by his company.

    As part of the agreement, the company will be paid 35 percent of the savings over the next three years.

    The company did an audit of the bills and services received by the county.

  • Parents will soon have access to student's grades

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- What’s one of the biggest complaints Bullitt County school superintendent Keith Davis has heard this year?

    School bus issues? Teacher or principal complaints? School food?

    No.

    It’s the inability of parents to have access to their child’s grades and assignments via the internet.

    Davis said a state-mandated change in the student data management system in Kentucky hit Bullitt County this year.

    “It’s been awful,” Davis admitted.

  • Beam receives tax incentives for $15 million visitor center

    FRANKFORT – The plans for a Visitors Experience at Jim Beam Distillery got a shot in the arm Wednesday.

    The Kentucky Tourism Development Authority approved tax incentives for the $15 million project at the Clermont plant.

    When completed in 2012, the new visitors center could have 200,000 tourists annually visit the plant off Highway 245.

    In September, Jim Beam officials announced plans to replace the American Outpost visitor center with a totally new type of interpretative center.

  • PV Police hope to draw attention

    PIONEER VILLAGE - In an effort to reduce accidents and citations for violations, the Pioneer Village Police Department has created an interesting reminder to motorists.

    At the corner of Preston Highway and John Harper Highway, a wrecked vehicle has been placed along the side of the road.

    The project is a partnership with the state  transportation cabinet, which owns the property.

    Pioneer Village police chief  Dale Elliott said the wrecked vehicle was donated by  Troy’s Wrecker Service and Sign Solutions II donated the banner.

  • Tourist group to step up its enforcement on late taxes

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - When someone eats a meal in the city limits of Shepherdsville, they are paying an additional 2 percent as part of the way to fund the operation of the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre and the tourist commission.

    However, some businesses have not always paid that tax as required.

    Enforcement on the collection of the food tax falls to Shepherdsville city government, which had to allow the measure to be adopted.

  • FOP secretary suspended after arrest

    LOUISVILLE - An officeholder with the Bullitt County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 42 has been suspended after being arrested on drug charges Friday night in Jefferson County.

    Vincent Lee Redemann, 24, of Shepherdsville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia and having expired license tags after a routine traffic stop on Preston Highway.

    A passenger, Elizabeth N. Ogle, 30, of Clermont, was also arrested for giving a false name or address and having an open alcoholic container.

  • Police searching for theft suspects

    The Shepherdsville Police Department is asking for the community's assistance in locating two suspects.

    The suspects in the attached photo are wanted for questioning regarding a theft in the Shepherdsville area.
