  • Seven charged in meth busts

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Seven people were arrested in two separate incidents alleging the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

    According to Kenny Hardin, director of the Bullitt County Drug Task Force, a simple traffic stop over a license plate that did not match the vehicle led to the arrest of two people on Thursday afternoon.

    At approximately 4:30 p.m., Sheriff's Deputy George Thurman pulled over Brian E. Wibbels on Interstate 65 near the Bernheim Forest exit.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of December 7

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled for the week of December 7:

     

    Jefferson County:

    Interstate 64:  Roadway will be closed in both directions intermittently, up to 15 minutes at a time, at mile point 16.2.  This closure is scheduled Tuesday, December 9, from 4:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. to allow for utility work.

  • Woman accused of rape now in custody

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A Hikes Point woman turned herself in Friday morning after being accused of improper sexual misconduct with a minor.

    Bullitt County Sheriff's Department Det. Scotty McGaha said Jessica Darcy Smith, 25, agreed to meet officials at the Louisville office of her attorney, Ken McCardwell.

    Smith has been charged with three counts of rape and one count of sodomy.

    According to McGaha, the woman was placed into the role of caretaker for a 15-year-old male in Bullitt County.

  • Detective says no evidence of stolen money by fire chief

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — The questions still seem to outweigh the answers in the Mount Washington Fire Protection District Board’s hearing of accused Mount Washington Fire Chief Michael Dooley.

    Dooley is charged by the board for poorly supervising and mismanaging funds in the department’s fire board Crusade committee and firemen’s fund accounts.

    Dooley was also recently indicted in Bullitt Circuit Court on misdemeanor charges of second-degree official misconduct.

    He is not charged criminally or by the fire board with stealing any funds.

  • Police believe solution may be near

    HEBRON ESTATES -- Police officers Mike Cook and Tim Waters are aware of a situation that has concerned residents in one northern Bullitt County city for several years.

    And, a solution may be near.

    But Cook said he was not able to discuss the work being conducted at the present time.

    That seemed good enough to appease the residents in the Horse Run Court area of Hebron Estates.

  • MW fire board votes to reinstate Dooley

    MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Applause erupted from friends and family of suspended fire chief Michael Dooley Thursday evening after the fire protection district's board of trustees reinstated Dooley to his full duties.

    Board chair Melvin Davis broke a tie vote to reinstate Dooley to his position as chief, although it was unclear as to when Dooley would resume his job.

  • Woman charged in bus accident

    HILLVIEW - No one was injured Thursday afternoon as a school bus carrying students from Maryville Elementary was struck by a car.

    According to Det. Scotty McGaha, sheriff's deputy Brandon Gwynn responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the vicinity of North Triangle Lane.

    A car struck the back of the bus and then fled.

    Hillview officer Mike Murdoch later located the fleeing driver.

    Cynthia Denise Elmore, 41, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of an open alcoholic container.

  • Two arrested in record 44th meth lab bust in county

    HILLVIEW - The Bullitt County Drug Task Force busted its 44th meth lab of 2008.

    Task Force director Kenny Hardin said officers uncovered the lab Wednesday night around 8 p.m. while issuing an arrest warrant on a suspect at 198 Briarwood Lane.

    Officers reported a strong chemical smell from the front doorway and asked the homeowner. Hardin said the owner eventually admitted that  meth was being manufactured in the house.

    Officers located an active meth lab in a back bedroom. Hardin said officers cleaned the area and neutralized the ingredients,
