SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt County officials will settle up on a pair of tax bills due on properties they have purchased over the years.

Between the property purchased on Saltwell Drive and the old Gobel’s on Highway 44 East, county attorney Walter A. Sholar said the state has back taxes due of over $8,500.

During the purchase negotiations, Sholar said it appeared the county agreed to pay the pro-rated taxes for the rest of the calendar year.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Over 1,000 people packed into the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre on Monday to see First Lady Laura Bush.

And although her campaign speech promoting the Republican Party candidates lasted 11 minutes, no one went away unhappy.

What may have been her last political appearance before leaving the White House, Bush said she was pleased that election day was approaching.

“It seems like George has been on the ticket,” Bush joked.

MOUNT WASHINGTON — Although progress might be a bit slower than initially planned, the wheels continue to turn on a multi-million dollar sewer plant construction project to serve Mount Washington.

The state-of-the-art facility will be able to handle a peak flow of up to five times the current plant located on Redbud Drive, according to city engineer Dave Derrick.

The proposed new plant carries a price tag of approximately $15 million and can process up to 3.5 million gallons a day. It will be located on the same land as the current plant.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - While the first patients may not have access to in-hospital long-term care for another three or four years, there is still plenty of excitement for the staff of Jewish Hospital Medical Center South.

Brian Doheny, chief operating officer for Jewish Hospital Medical Center, said approval has been granted for the creation of 60 beds at the Bullitt County facility.

Currently, the facility is home to an emergency room, diagnostic testing, specialists and general medical offices.
