  • MW tax bills contain wrong phone number

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — Mayor Joetta Calhoun has a special plea for those citizens who just received their city tax bills: Please don’t call the phone number listed on the statements.

    Mount Washington residents began receiving their real and personal property tax bills last week and it became quickly apparent that the phone number listed on the bills was that of a private resident.

    Calhoun said at the city council meeting Monday evening that residents with questions should call 538-4216 and not the number on the bill.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of November 9

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled for the week of November 9:

     

    Jefferson County:

    I-65: Shoulder closures and delays possible in both directions between Fern Valley Road and the Kentucky/Indiana state line (mile points 128.3 and 137.3) due to traffic counter installation. Shoulder closures will occur weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

  • Vehicle leaves I-65 roadway; driver rescued

    CLERMONT - A driver was rescued from her vehicle after leaving Interstate 65 and coming to a rest in a ravine Wednesday afternoon.

    Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell said the driver, Camilia Ruth Cooper of Indiana, reported blacking out while driving her Ford Expedition along northbound I-65 just after 4 p.m.

    Cooper's vehicle left the roadway just north of Highway 245 at Exit 112, ending up on the opposite side of the guardrail.

  • First Lady in Bullitt county Monday to lead GOP push

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The First Lady of the United States will make a visit in Shepherdsville on Monday.

    First Lady Laura Bush will be part of the 2008 Victory Rally on Monday at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    According to the Republican Party of Kentucky, Bush will be in Shepherdsville to speak at around 12:40 p.m.

  • Man in custody for threatening judge

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A Mount Washington man was arrested Wednesday for threatening a local judge.

    Terry Glen Hayes, 49, was taken into custody by Bullitt County sheriffs after allegedly making threats to kill District Judge Rebecca Ward.

    Det. Scotty McGaha said Hayes was at an automotive repair business in Mount Washington at 10:30 Wednesday morning when he told an employee he hated Ward because of a pending court order issued against him. The employee said in a statement that Hayes mentioned he would get a gun and shoot the judge.

  • Extra machines in place to deal with record turnout at polls

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With a record turnout expected, election officials are preparing for the largest day at the polls in Bullitt County history.

    Extra voting machines will be placed in 20 of the 44 precincts, according to Bullitt County clerk Kevin Mooney. He is placing enough machines in the precincts to handle the possible 70 percent turnout.

    There will also be extra units available in case of a breakdown.

    While the presidential election always drives heavier turnouts, a number of local races have also peaked an interest.

  • Three look to fill seat on school board

    SHEPHERDSVILLE — Three men will battle on Nov. 4 for the right to fill the last two years of a vacancy on the Bullitt County Public School Board.

    David Cross, Carl “Bud” Johnson Jr. and Tim Wiseheart will be on the ballot for the District 3 spot.

    As a citizen, Cross feels that when a question is asked, an answer should be given.

    In some governmental circles, Cross isn’t sure that is always the result.

  • Two battle for House seat in 49th

    SHEPHERDSVILLE — Two will battle for the House of Representative seat in the 49th District, covering much of Bullitt County.

    But the race is shaping up to be much different than originally thought when the filing deadline passed in January.

    Incumbent Larry Belcher was slated to be challenged by Republican Trina Summers, a longtime councilmember in Shepherdsville.

    However, with the recent passing of Belcher in an auto accident, Summers will face a new opponent on Nov. 4.
