  • Private Roads: A thing of the past?

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Is there a place in Bullitt County for private roads to be maintained by the property owners?

    Or is it just a situation where people will eventually be asking elected officials to bring the roads into the governmental maintenance system?

    Such was the case for the Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission.

    Faced with the technical review of a subdivision on the Arson Moore farm in Mount Washington, planners talked for an hour before voting 10-1 to approve the plans.

  • $13M housing project proposed for Saltwell Drive

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - A $13 million multi-family development could be in line for the city of Shepherdsville.

        But developers have just over a month to complete paperwork needed to make the project happen.

        And city officials just heard the details on Monday.

        Developer Steve Poe and attorney/property owner Thomas Givhan outlined the project to the Shepherdsville City Council.

  • Hillview purchases St. Mary site

        HILLVIEW - The Rev. Bob Ray was met with hugs as he entered St. Mary Catholic Church for a final time.

        Despite the smiles and good wishes, Ray knew that it was a bittersweet day for many in attendance.

        Consolidation of Catholic parishes over the years did not avoid the people of St. Mary in Hillview. The parish was consolidated several years ago with St. Jerome in Fairdale and is now Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

  • BCPS school board votes to raise tax rates

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - Property owners in Bullitt County will be paying a few more dollars to the public school system.

            By the narrowest of margins, the Bullitt County Public School Board voted 3-2 on Tuesday evening to take the 4 percent allowed and to raise its tax rate when bills are sent out later this month.

            After a proposal to only raise the real property tax by 2 percent failed, the board voted to increase all rates by the amount allowable without fear of voter recall.

  • Curve claims another life

        HILLVIEW - A driver died following a collision with a dumptruck on Highway 61 Monday morning.

        The accident took place in front of 4456 N. Preston Highway just after 11 a.m., according to Hillview Police Ofc. Roy Raines.

        Bullitt County Sheriffs Chief Deputy Mike Cook said a black Dodge pickup truck was headed northbound when it crossed the line into the northbound lane, making contact with the rear tire area of a dumptruck headed southbound.

  • No one hurt in plane crash Friday

        HILLVIEW - Miraculously, no one was injured Friday afternoon as a single engine plane experienced engine problems and crashed just feet from a heavily-populated residential area in northern Bullitt County.

        According to Hillview Police spokesman Roy Raines a licensed pilot and a flight instructor were in the plane.

        The pilot was completing an annual recertification review flight.

        The 1959 Champion plane took off from the Blue Lick International Airport in Hillview.

  • MW to alter ordinance to allow produce from 5 counties

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - When the Mount Washington City Council passed an ordinance creating a farm to market license for those wanting to sell produce within the city it included a provision restricting license holders to selling produce grown within a 20-mile radius from city hall.

  • Planners recommend MW housing plans

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - Despite some concerns from nearby residents, Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission members recommended approval for a residential development to continue off Hubbard Lane.

        But planners placed some conditions on the rezoning that would be decided by the Mount Washington City Council.

        John Wooldridge, representing Vincent Downs and SLAM Investments LP, requested to rezone the property from R-2 to R-3 Residential.
