  • New traffic signal activation on KY 61 at KY 1116

     LOUISVILLE - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announces activation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of KY 61 (Preston Highway) and KY 1116 (Zoneton Road) in Bullitt County.

    The signal heads are currently in place and will be turned on flash this week to make motorists aware of new traffic conditions.

    The signal is currently scheduled for activation on Tuesday, March 3.

    KYTC staff will test the traffic signal next week and adjust the timing as needed.

  • FIRE AT STANDARD PUBLISHING, PIONEER NEWS OFFICES

     A blaze began in the back warehouse where paper rolls are stacked, leading to an evacuation of Standard Publishing and The Pioneer News offices Wednesday afternoon.

  • Healthy Heart luncheon brings awareness, knowledge

     When February rolls around, people usually always have love on the brain. But some often forget to consider the health of their heart first.

    February is also American Heart Month and continuing with the tradition the Bullitt County Health Department will sponsor the Healthy Hearts Wear Red luncheon Thursday, Feb. 26.

    “Heart disease is one of the silent killers,” said Liz McGuire, Bullitt County Health Department health education coordinator.  “A lot of people don’t know they have issues until something happens.”

  • KSP offers winter driving tips

     FRANKFORT - Kentuckians are being dealt a wintery weather blast and KSP is asking motorists to be aware that weather conditions may change rapidly over the next few days.

    “Winter weather provides new challenges and responsibilities to the public and the Kentucky State Police,” says KSP spokesman Sgt. Michael Webb.

  • Coalition meets Tuesday to discuss future

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - There are many community members who have wanted to help the homelessness crisis in Bullitt County over the years.

    There is no emergency homeless shelter facility in the county. There is The Shepherd’s Shelter, Inc. that tries to assist in a long-term way to obtain self-sustainability.

    There is no crisis food emergency cafeteria, although groups such as Martie’s Kitchen and Two Fish Ministries offer weekly meals.

  • BC cheerleaders excel after wild trip down to national competition

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - One thing for certain, no other team had more to cheer about.

    The Bullitt Central Cheerleading Team placed seventh overall out of 600 teams in the Large Co-Ed Division of the 2015 National High School Cheerleading Championships.

    Bullitt Central’s visits to Orlando, Fla., for the annual competition have become commonplace; however, this year’s trip was completely different, involving a bus accident in Atlanta, Ga., en route to the Sunshine State.

      LOUISVILLE – Hillview Police Chief Glenn Caple was convicted today of making a false statement to federal agents when questioned about his knowledge and involvement in moving evidence found on an elected official’s property on January 4, 2012, announced Acting United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr.

  • Local representatives named to Republican positions

     House Republican Caucus Leadership, which is House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover, R-Jamestown; Republican Caucus Chair Stan Lee, R-Lexington; and Republican Whip Jim DeCesare, R-Bowling Green, announced today the creation of positions called ranking members among the caucus.The ranking members named to House Committees, which includes several local representatives, are:

    *Agriculture and Small Business: Rep. James Tipton, R-Taylorsville, who covers a couple of eastern Bullitt County precincts, as well as all of Spencer and Anderson counties

  • Apartment fire fought in LJ

     LEBANON JUNCTION - Residents were evacuated following a structure fire at an apartment complex in Lebanon Junction Thursday afternoon.

    Lebanon Junction and Shepherdsville Fire units responded to the middle building of the Bryant Place Apartments complex at 175 Brook St. just after 4 p.m..

    Lebanon Junction police officer  Larry Coy said a neighbor saw smoke coming from a shed attached top the back of the building and alerted a resident while calling 9-1-1.
