  • Rumors done; Kroger to be in Mt. Washington

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — After almost two years of planning, negotiations and rumors, the news is finally official: The Kroger Company is planning to locate a grocery store and fuel station in Mount Washington.

    The Kroger is planned as part of a larger retail development known as the Mount Washington Commons located off Highway 31 E near the intersection of Eastbrooke Parkway and High Point Court, according to a public notice of intent submitted by Nicklies Development of Louisville.

  • Tough draw leads to early exit for Lady Chargers

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A 17-12 advantage in the first game was not enough for the Bullitt East Lady Chargers in the first-round of the Eighth Region Volleyball Tournament on Monday on their home court.

    North Oldham rallied from that deficit to win the first game 25-21 and then rolled to a 25-19 victory in the second game to advance to Wednesday’s semi-finals at Bullitt East.

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - In a perfect world, the play-off pairings should have already been set for the 2008 season.

    Of course, we don’t live in a perfect world. Not even a perfect sports world.

    Sometimes the real world creeps into the sports world. That is certainly the case when it comes to the 2008 football season - on two fronts.

  • One and done for local boys' soccer teams in the 9th district

    BARDSTOWN – What had been one of the best seasons in the program’s history came to an early end last week as the Bullitt East boys’ soccer team was knocked out of the Ninth District Soccer Tournament by Nelson County 3-2 in the semi-finals.

    Bullitt East had beaten Nelson County 4-2 during the regular season. Coach Mike Brangers’ team had beaten Nelson County in the district semi-finals each of the past two seasons and they were looking forward to another showdown with state-power Bethlehem in the championship game.

  • Tickets still available for annual Arts Council gala

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- There are some new and mysterious twists planned for the fourth-annual Bullitt County Arts Council Gala this Saturday.

    The event will this year feature a "you solve it" murder mystery dinner. The mini murder mystery parody entitled, "The Art of Murder" was written by local playwright and arts council member Bill Breuer.

    "(The arts council) wanted a little something extra," Breuer said of the event.

  • Manual is big hurdle for BE

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - In a season filled with tough opponents, the Bullitt East Chargers will face another this week when Class 6-A powerhouse Manual pays a visit to the Chargers’ Den.

    Of the eight teams that Bullitt East has played this season, only Butler has failed to win at least three games. In fact, only Butler and LaRue County have losing records.

  • Eagles secure ball, victory over Marion

    HEBRON ESTATES — When Dalton Cissell scored his third touchdown on the evening to put North Bullitt ahead 21-7 with four minutes to go, the Eagle fans were probably feeling pretty good.

    However, the district victory over visiting Marion County wasn’t secured until Duke Tomlinson’s back-to-back sacks of quarterback Eric Miles as time expired.

    The hard-fought 21-14 victory over Marion County guaranteed a home game in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 14.

  • Pair caught after robbery spree

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A robbery spree starting in Bullitt County on Thursday night ended several hours later in Jefferson County.

    Two individuals have been arrested and will face charges in both counties.

    According to Det. Scotty McGaha of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department, the first robbery attempt was at the Red, White and Blue convenience store on Joy Drive, next to the old Bullitt Bowl.

    McGaha said Desiree Jackson, 25, and Brenton Wayne Dodson, 28, allegedly went to that store around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday but could not get into the business.

  • North Bullitt loses in regional tournament

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - North Bullitt faced a tough draw in the 8th Region volleyball tournament at Bullitt East.

    The Eagles faced district winning Oldham County on Tuesday evening.

    The Lady Colonels defeated North Bullitt 25-14, 25-18.

    The semifinal matches on Wednesday will match North Oldham versus Anderson County at 6:30 p.m. and Oldham County against Shelby County at 7:45 p.m.

    The final at Bullitt East will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

    The host team, Bullitt East, lost on Monday night to North Oldham.
