  • First Lady in Bullitt county Monday to lead GOP push

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The First Lady of the United States will make a visit in Shepherdsville on Monday.

    First Lady Laura Bush will be part of the 2008 Victory Rally on Monday at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    According to the Republican Party of Kentucky, Bush will be in Shepherdsville to speak at around 12:40 p.m.

  • Failed conversion foils East’s upset bid in overtime

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers have won games this season in which it took a late miracle for the winning points.

    The red and gold have also won games when the opponent fumbled inside the 1-yard line when driving for the go-ahead touchdown.

    On Friday, it was the reverse as Bullitt East did everything in their power to upset Manual, the state’s 20th-ranked team, only to come up short on a two-point conversion attempt at the end of the second overtime.

  • Bourbon Barrel on the line as BE heads to Nelson

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers will try to shake off the effects of a tough loss and also build momentum for the post-season on Friday as they close out the regular season with a trip to Bardstown to take on Nelson County.

        This has become a friendly rivalry in recent years. This will be the sixth meeting in the series between the two schools with Nelson County holding a 3-2 advantage. Bullitt East did win 41-28 last season in Mount Washington.

  • Doss just has too many athletes for Eagles

    HEBRON ESTATES - Looking at the final statistics, the North Bullitt Eagles had enough yards and played well enough on the defensive side to win Friday night’s encounter against the Doss Dragons.

    However, three big plays haunted the host Eagles on this Halloween encounter with their former district foes.

    As a result, the Eagle fans went home 20-7 losers.

    “Doss is a talented team,” said head coach Brett Newton. “They’re probably the quickest team we’ve seen. It’s hard to face such a quick line.”

  • Regional cross-country Saturday

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – The area cross-country teams will move into the post-season on Saturday with the regional meets held at two different locations in Jefferson County.

    Bullitt East and North Bullitt, in Class 2-A, will be competing at McNeely Lake Park in southern Jefferson County. That course is basically the home course for both teams as they often practice there and have run in a handful of meets there this season including the DeSales Invitational less than two weeks ago.

  • Man in custody for threatening judge

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A Mount Washington man was arrested Wednesday for threatening a local judge.

    Terry Glen Hayes, 49, was taken into custody by Bullitt County sheriffs after allegedly making threats to kill District Judge Rebecca Ward.

    Det. Scotty McGaha said Hayes was at an automotive repair business in Mount Washington at 10:30 Wednesday morning when he told an employee he hated Ward because of a pending court order issued against him. The employee said in a statement that Hayes mentioned he would get a gun and shoot the judge.

  • Extra machines in place to deal with record turnout at polls

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With a record turnout expected, election officials are preparing for the largest day at the polls in Bullitt County history.

    Extra voting machines will be placed in 20 of the 44 precincts, according to Bullitt County clerk Kevin Mooney. He is placing enough machines in the precincts to handle the possible 70 percent turnout.

    There will also be extra units available in case of a breakdown.

    While the presidential election always drives heavier turnouts, a number of local races have also peaked an interest.

    ValuMarket will host two different charitable events this weekend, each benefiting a special audience.

  • DeSales Invitational provides late-season Cross Country tune-up

    LOUISVILLE - The final key tune-up before regional cross-country meets are contested on Nov. 8 was the DeSales Invitational on Saturday at McNeely Lake Park involved all three of the Bullitt County programs.

    For both Bullitt East and North Bullitt, it was another chance to get on the course that will be the site of the Class AA regional next Saturday. For both programs, the course is basically their home away from home as none of the local teams has a home course.
