  • Best of five final goes to MWMS in 'B' showdown

     ZONETON – The fifth time was just what the doctor ordered for the Mount Washington Lady Generals on Thursday in the championship game of the Girls’ ‘B’ Division of the Bullitt County Middle School Tournament.

         Amazingly, this was the fifth meeting this season between arch-rivals and good friends Mount Washington and Eastside. The two squads split the first four meetings, setting up this meeting at Zoneton Middle School to break the tie.

  • Champions honored at 2013 Salem Speedway closing ceremony

     SALEM, Ind. – Track champions were crowned and numerous other honors were handed out at the 25th annual Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery Awards Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

    Over 150 drivers, owners, mechanics, sponsors and guests gathered at Cornerstone Hall in Salem for the season ending event.  The top 10 finishers in all three Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery divisions were among the honorees.

  • Jimmie Johnson Wins 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship

     DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jimmie Johnson took another step closer to stock car racing history on Sunday, claiming his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

    Johnson, who entered the race with a 28-point lead over 2003 series champion Matt Kenseth, finished ninth in the Ford EcoBoost 400, putting his final margin over Kenseth at 19 points.

  • Chargers rip victory away from Grayson

     MOUNT WASHINGTON – Tied at 14-14 midway through the second quarter and still reeling from a pair of big plays for touchdowns by Grayson County, the Bullitt East Chargers were in need of a big play Friday night in the second round of the Class 5-A play-offs.

         So often, when the Chargers need that spark, they get it from senior linebacker/running back Brandon Samuels. Against Shelby County four weeks earlier, he did it on offense. On Friday, he did it on defense.

  • MWMS survives OT 'A' final against future teammates

    ZONETON – On Thursday night, the Mount Washington Lady Generals and Eastside Lady Eagles met for the fifth time this season – as adversaries and arch-rivals.

         Within a few days they will be teammates at Bullitt East.

  • Heated: Mayor, council battle over rumor mill

     Tempers flared at the Lebanon Junction council meeting Monday night.

    Mayor Butch Sweat said there had been rumors going around that council members were stealing money and he didn’t appreciate the accusations.

    “There’s five people on this council that are honest people,” he said. “And I know they wouldn’t take any money. They’ve lived here their whole life, they’re good people and I’ll go to bat for them.”

  • Age cannot slow down the county's noted grower of apples

     PLEASANT GROVE - The Johnny Appleseed of Bullitt County continues to achieve success in his pleasant orchard located in Pleasant Grove.

    Ray Armstrong is known throughout the region for his prowess of growing quality apples. Judges at the Kentucky State Fair continue to confirm Armstrong's work, showering him with 23 awards in the 2013 competition.

    The awards included a Best of Show for a plate of apples. Armstrong said each plate consisted of a class of five apples, with five plates judged for Best of Show.
