  • LJ committee to look at rates

    LEBANON JUNCTION — Lebanon Junction is facing some tough decisions when it comes to the city’s water company.

    For years the city has been making hundreds of thousands of dollars in account transfers from the occupational tax fund to help keep the water department afloat. City Clerk Susan Crady said the water company has not been self-sustaining for several years, and that’s a big problem.

    If the city was to lose a large portion of its occupational tax money then it could possibly be unable to pay for bulk water and system maintenance.

  • Two enter guilty pleas in fraud case

    LOUISVILLE - A former director of a program that provided respite services has admitted in federal court that she defrauded two agencies of over $132,000.

    Sylvia Rednour and her daughter, Jennifer Roby, entered guilty pleas on Monday in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy, mail fraud and forgery.

    In separate plea agreements, the Mount Washington residents admitted that between November 1998 and November 30, 2007, they defrauded the respite care program operated by the American Red Cross through a contract with Seven Counties Services.

  • Attorney General Conway issues fraud alert

    FRANKFORT – Attorney General Jack Conway warned consumers who have purchased classified ads in newspapers that they could be targeted by scam artists and should not give out personal information over the phone.

     

    “We’ve received complaints from a couple of classified advertisers that someone claiming to be from the newspaper is contacting them asking for credit-card information and Social Security numbers,” Conway said.

  • Family fun fest before school begins

    MOUNT WASHINGTON " Kids not quite ready to surrender their break to the approaching school year will have at least one more chance to celebrate summer this Friday.

    Peoples Bank Mount Washington is sponsoring the Summer Kid-Fest starting at 4 p.m. on the business’ property at 201 N. Bardstown Road.

    The celebration will include an evening filled with fun and free attractions including slides, a bungee run, bouncers, a free movie, and an obstacle course. Children will also have the opportunity to receive a free back-pack, drinks, ice pops and more.

  • Pioneer Village will consider rezoning for property

    PIONEER VILLAGE - A zoning issue may lead to an amendment of the Pioneer Village city map.

    Dwayne Gibson recently requested a zoning change to an area of 1.02 acres located at 215 Windy Hill Road near Windstream.

    Mayor Gary Hatcher said the property was originally part of the Pope subdivision.

    City attorney Mark Edison said the property was zoned R-1 Residential with no restrictions. Gibson wants to rezone to B-2 Central Business.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of July 27

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled in Bullitt County for the week of July 27:

     

    Bullitt County:

    KY 1526 (John Harper Highway): Temporarily closed between Hebron Lane and KY 61 to allow for pipe installation. This closure is scheduled from 5 p.m. Sunday, August 2, until 5 a.m. Monday, August 3. Local access will be allowed, but through traffic should follow the signed detour via Hebron Lane.
