  • Attorney General Conway issues fraud alert

    FRANKFORT – Attorney General Jack Conway warned consumers who have purchased classified ads in newspapers that they could be targeted by scam artists and should not give out personal information over the phone.

     

    “We’ve received complaints from a couple of classified advertisers that someone claiming to be from the newspaper is contacting them asking for credit-card information and Social Security numbers,” Conway said.

  • Family fun fest before school begins

    MOUNT WASHINGTON " Kids not quite ready to surrender their break to the approaching school year will have at least one more chance to celebrate summer this Friday.

    Peoples Bank Mount Washington is sponsoring the Summer Kid-Fest starting at 4 p.m. on the business’ property at 201 N. Bardstown Road.

    The celebration will include an evening filled with fun and free attractions including slides, a bungee run, bouncers, a free movie, and an obstacle course. Children will also have the opportunity to receive a free back-pack, drinks, ice pops and more.

  • Pioneer Village will consider rezoning for property

    PIONEER VILLAGE - A zoning issue may lead to an amendment of the Pioneer Village city map.

    Dwayne Gibson recently requested a zoning change to an area of 1.02 acres located at 215 Windy Hill Road near Windstream.

    Mayor Gary Hatcher said the property was originally part of the Pope subdivision.

    City attorney Mark Edison said the property was zoned R-1 Residential with no restrictions. Gibson wants to rezone to B-2 Central Business.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of July 27

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled in Bullitt County for the week of July 27:

     

    Bullitt County:

    KY 1526 (John Harper Highway): Temporarily closed between Hebron Lane and KY 61 to allow for pipe installation. This closure is scheduled from 5 p.m. Sunday, August 2, until 5 a.m. Monday, August 3. Local access will be allowed, but through traffic should follow the signed detour via Hebron Lane.

  • Celebrating Independence

    Residents of the Deer Run subdivision off Hebron Lane in Pioneer Village hosted their first annual July 4th parade through the neighborhood.

    About 100 people of all ages came out to celebrate the Fourth. The Zoneton Fire Department and the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department led the parade.

  • 'Farner Dreams' - a wish list for the future

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - I have a dream. What I like to think of as ‘Farner Dreams.’

    OK, I have lots of dreams. If you sleep a lot, then you have a lot of dreams. Nobody enjoys ‘resting their eyes’ more than me.

    Still, after 32 years of doing this job, my eyes are wide open when it comes to seeing what Bullitt County needs in terms of sports and recreation facilities in our community. At this point, there are varying levels and success stories for what is already present.

  • City attorney will have plenty of topics to address

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - City attorney Bill Wilson wasn’t at the past council meeting in Shepherdsville.

    But when he gets back from vacation, councilmember Don Cundiff has a few things he would like researched.

    During the recent council meeting, Cundiff inquired about several issues and whether the city had ordinances controlling them.

    First, he wanted to know if there was an ordinance dealing with barking dogs.

    Second, Cundiff had questions about a burning ordinance in the city.

  • Former educator to serve 120 days

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A former educator and athletic coach will spend at least 120 days in confinement before being considered for release.

    Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress listened to a shock probation request from Larry Brent Childress, who entered a guilty plea on two counts of rape and two counts of sodomy.

    Burress rejected a request for probation on the eight-year sentence in May.
