  • Fiscal court should rule on Hwy. 245 rezoning

    CLERMONT - Christopher Mattingly may soon find out whether he can store automobiles on property off Highway 245.

    Following a trio of public hearings, Bullitt Fiscal Court is expected to make a decision on Tuesday over the request to rezone 3.7 acres from Conservation and R-1 Residential to B-1 Highway Business.

    The property, owned by Leonard and Christopher Mattingly, has stored vehicles and the request would bring the tract into compliance.

  • Record number of indictments continue in '09

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- As the county court system works through cases to decrease the number of open charges, the Bullitt County Grand Jury is handing down what is on track to be another record year.

    Those indicted recently include:

    *Dallas Ashbaugh Jr. - indicted for manufacturing methamphetamine and being a persistent felony offender.

    According to the indictment, Ashbaugh was allegedly in possession of the chemicals and equipment needed to manufacture methamphetamine on March 16, 2009.

    The charge is a Class A felony punishable by 20 years to life in prison.

  • Men indicted for May theft at pharmacy

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Two men have been charged with a May break-in at a local pharmacy.

    Barry Joe Kerr, 34, of New Albany, Ind., and Jacob Robinson have been charged with allegedly breaking into the Medica Pharmacy in Shepherdsville on May 2, 2009.

    They were each indicted for complicity to burglary and complicity to theft of a controlled substance over $300.

    The most serious charge is a Class C felony punishable by 5-10 years in prison.

    However, Kerr was also indicted for being a persistent felony offender.

  • Shepherdsville agrees to help open up pool at Bullitt Central

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Two pools are open and a third one may be less than two weeks away from being operational.

    Facing renovations required to the federal Virginia Graeme Baker act, the swimming pools at Maryville and Mount Washington opened several weeks late.

    Now, with the financial assistance of Shepherdsville, the Bullitt Central pool could be open in a couple of weeks.

    The Shepherdsville City Council voted Monday evening to spend $2,442.86 on materials needed. The city will also provide some equipment and manpower to install the new safer drain system.

  • Accident claims life of MW man

    MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The Bullitt County Sheriff's Department is working to determine if speed and alcohol contributed to a tragic Wednesday evening accident that left one local man dead.

    Joshua Michael Bartley, 22, of Mount Washington, was killed after the vehicle he was riding in left the roadway and flipped several times, Bullitt County Sheriff's Dept. Chief Deputy Danny Thompson said.

    Thompson said Heather Michelle Woloch, 19, of Shepherdsville was traveling south on Bardstown Road near Oakbrooke Drive when she lost control of her 2001 Dodge Stratus and crashed.

  • LJ looks to alter curfew to curb late-night crowd

    LEBANON JUNCTION — Lebanon Junction Police Chief Paul Hornung said the city is dealing with a loitering problem late at night and he thinks changing the current curfew could help alleviate it.

    Hornung shared his concerns with city council members at the July meeting.

  • Battle of the Bluegrass Modified 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble July 25

    BARDSTOWN - After a weekend off, The roar of engines returns as track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will present another evening of “Saturday Night Showtime” on Saturday July 25 and the Modified division will take centerstage in the 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble, paying $1,500 to win for the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series.

  • Pill Drop

    The first Saturday of the medication dropoff saw 22 people bring old pills to a disposal site.

    Over 8,750 pills were collected, as well as many other old and unneeded medications.

    The final pill dropoff will be on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. behind the courthouse.

  • Kindergarten Kickoff on Thursday will have plenty of fun, school information

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The start of a new school year can be exciting, like the beginning of a football season.

    When you’re beginning Kindergarten the thrill and excitement could hardly be contained, though nerves could come into play for such young students.

    To ease the transition and focus on the excitement, Bullitt County Public Schools Family Resource Centers are presenting the second annual Kindergarten Kickoff, scheduled Thursday, July 23, 4-7 p.m., at the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

  • Three graduates will be perfect employees in future

    Over the past week, graduates from the four Bullitt County high schools have been honored.

    Many have stood as their accomplishments were recognized. There was academic achievement. Athletic skill was honored. And those who excelled in extracurricular activities were honored.

    But maybe three graduates accomplished one of the greatest achievements in the Class of 2009.

    I would add my special salute to Hanna Scott and Jacob Corley, both of North Bullitt, and Ericka Nutt of Bullitt East.
