  • Highway 245 rezoning bid delayed ‘til July 7 meeting

    CLERMONT - A rezoning request along Highway 245 will not be decided until July 7.

    Bullitt Fiscal Court members opted to table a vote on Tuesday and will hold another public hearing on Tuesday, July 7.

    The applicant, Leonard and Christopher Mattingly, are seeking rezoning of 3.7 acres from Conservation and R-1 Residential to B-1 Highway Business.

    The father and son want to expand a vehicle storage lot on the property; however, several entities concerned about the future of the Highway 245 corridor have opposed the request.

  • 11th Annual Kentuckiana Klash at Bluegrass Speedway July 11

    BARDSTOWN - After being rained out for the first time in 2009 on July 4, Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will present another evening of “Saturday Night Showtime” and it will be another Super Late Model special as the O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Super Late Models visit for the fourth time this season for the 11th Annual Kentuckiana Klash, paying $5,000 to win.

  • Salt River Plant Road again at point of talks by city council

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- A narrow road connecting Beech Grove Road and Highway 61 South may have received more discussion than any other street in Bullitt County over the past several years.

    And, when residents learned that the road would soon be reopened to thru-traffic, they quickly came to talk with members of the Shepherdsville City Council.

    Due to dangerous conditions and heavy traffic, the road was closed over two years ago. At the prior meeting in June, councilmembers voted 4-2 to reopen the road.

  • BE's Alphin, Bowles earn baseball All-State honors; NB's Cissell runs and tackles

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The honors keep rolling in for Bullitt East baseball standouts Brandon Alphin and Matt Bowles.

    On Tuesday of this week, it was learned that both of the juniors had been named First Team All-State by the Kentucky Baseball Coaches’ Association. There were 18 players named to the first team and an equal number on the second team.

    It has been quite a few years since any local players have earned All-State baseball recognition.

  • Schools able to weather first storm

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With no major changes expected from the recent special session, Bullitt County officials believe they will be OK financially for the next fiscal year.

    But they aren’t as confident about the years after that.

    While the district is utilizing a different pot of money for the many construction projects underway, superintendent Keith Davis and finance director Denise Smith felt confident in the proposed 2009-10 budget.

  • Up on the rooftop: Bernheim gardening to new heights

    CLERMONT -- Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest aims high at being a regional pioneer in the field of horticultural science.

    One might say they’ve aimed just above the ceiling.

    Bernheim revealed the Living Roof Project, an ongoing research project testing various plant and soil samples for use on rooftops of area buildings. The project is being funded through the Brown Foreman Corporation.

  • The Army comes to Bullitt Lick

    Throughout the past school year, SFC Daniel Kimball came to Bullitt Lick Middle School to bring a message on the dangers of illegal substances, such as drugs and alcohol. PE/Health instructor Amanda Yarbrough brought in Kimball and his U.S. Army program as part of the curriculum.

  • Elementary band programs hitting low notes

    HEBRON ESTATES - Many of Bullitt county’s public elementary schools are having to face some tough music next year.

    Several schools are deciding not to offer beginning band as state accountability testing standards change and growing elementary schools are faced with tough scheduling decisions.

    Bullitt County’s elementary schools have traditionally offered beginning band at the fifth grade level. Band was one exploratory course that students could participate in to expand their knowledge of the arts and humanities.

  • Williams set for retirement after nine years as NB's AD

    HEBRON ESTATES - After nine years at the helm, Rob Williams will step down on Friday as North Bullitt’s athletic director.

    Williams is retiring after 27 years in public education despite the fact that he is only 49 years of age. However, while Williams will step down from North Bullitt, he has no plans to exit education.
