  • Spainhour considers run at state Senate

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With state Sen. Gary Tapp’s announcement that he would not run for re-election to the General Assembly, Bullitt County officials began to talk about possible candidates for the position.

    Tapp threw his support to fellow Shelbyville Republican Paul Hornback in the District 20 state senate race.

    There appears to be one candidate in Bullitt County who is seriously looking at making a run at the position.

    John Spainhour, a long-time attorney, is exploring the possibility of seeking the Democratic nomination next spring.

  • NB's Cissell to play in East/West game

    HEBRON ESTATES - Former North Bullitt football standout Dalton Cissell will play on Friday in the Kentucky East-West All-Star game at L.T. Smith Stadium at Western Kentucky University.

    There was some confusion back in March when the original rosters were announced. Cissell, the ninth-leading rusher in Kentucky history, was not part of the team. That oversight was corrected and Cissell will wear number 21 on Friday in his final high school football game before heading to the University of Louisville as a preferred walk-on.

  • Bullitt Lick may change name to get fresh start

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Heather Terrell said there is no reason to be ashamed to say that you attended Bullitt Lick Middle School over the past 33 years.

    But, if the school’s name is changed, she said it is a slap at the institution that has educated many fine students over the past four decades.

    With each passing comment at the school-based council meeting in May, opinions seemed to sway.

    The question was whether the council should recommend the Bullitt County Public School Board to allow a change to the Bullitt Lick name.

  • Water, sewer shortfall still causes LJ officials concern

    LEBANON JUNCTION - Lebanon Junction could be facing some major financial trouble if an estimated $57,593 shortfall in the city’s water and sewer operations and maintenance budget isn’t solved.

    The city had the first reading of its water/sewer and general fund budgets in May with the second reading and a vote scheduled for this evening’s meeting at 7 p.m.

    During the first reading no one questioned the deficiency but some personnel have since started to take notice.

  • Transit plan has big hopes for future roadways

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Could you envision a new route from Highway 44 to the Gene Snyder Freeway in Jefferson County?

    Or what about a new bridge over Floyds Fork to have a connector road from Highway 61 to Highway 44?

    And what about a new bridge over Salt River with a connector road between Highway 44 West and Highway 61?

    These are just some of the preliminary thoughts behind a comprehensive transportation study plan for Bullitt County.

  • Hebron Estates budget looks to be solid for coming year

    HEBRON ESTATES -- While some of the larger governmental entities are struggling financially, that is not a problem being experienced in the city of Hebron Estates.

    While having less carryover than is projected at the end of the current fiscal year, Hebron Estates City Commissioners are not worried about where the next tax dollar is being collected.

    Introducing its 2009-10 budget, Hebron Estates is slated to have over $224,000 to spend in its general fund and another $26,567 in the road fund.

  • Jones' three-run blast rallies East to an 8-4 game two win

    HODGENVILLE - When it rains it pours.

    The Bullitt East Chargers haven’t really been an all or none team this spring, but that is the way it worked out on Friday as the red and gold scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Elizabethtown 8-4 in the second game of the best-of-three Section III event at LaRue County High School.

    Through the first 12 innings of the tournament, Bullitt East had managed one run and had seen very little success against Panther pitching.

  • Local boat retailer found in lake

    TAYLORSVILLE - A week after he was reported missing, a Bullitt County man’s body has been recovered in at Taylorsville Lake.

    Anthony W. Reynolds, 36,  of Shepherdsville, had been last seen about 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29 after apparently losing control of the boat he was driving, said Lt. Shane Carrier of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

    Carrier said that Reynolds was test driving a client’s boat that he had repaired, when witnesses said the vessel made an abrupt right turn causing Reynolds to be ejected from the port, or left, side.

  • Shepherdsville wins 1999 suit over fire districts

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The decision was what city of Shepherdsville officials had been waiting for the past decade.

    On Tuesday, Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress ruled that on Sept. 27, 2007, the city of Shepherdsville had a regular fire department.

    The decision settles a lawsuit filed in 1999 by the fire taxing districts of Zoneton, Nichols, Mount Washington and Southeast Bullitt.

    At that time, the fire districts argued that the city of Shepherdsville had encroached illegally into their territory when it annexed property.
