  • POLICE ALERT: Reward offered for stolen backhoe

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Shepherdsville Police Department is looking for a stolen Kubota backhoe that was stolen from the Old Preston Hwy South area.

    The attached picture is of a like item. A reward has been offered if found.

  • Jordy, Shepherdsville K-9, dies over the weekend

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The city of Shepherdsville unexpectedly lost a member of its police department over the weekend.

    According to Cpt. Ken Bernardi, K-9 Lt. Jordy died over the weekend at home.

    Jordy joined the Shepherdsville Police Department in 2006 and worked with various handlers — Jeff Schank, Mark Riley and Jason Rives.

    Anytime an officer is hurt or dies, Bernardi said the rest of the department takes it very hard.

    “In my 25 years as an officer, I’ve never seen a drug dog work so hard,” said Bernardi.

  • Charger Basketball Camp

    The summer basketball camp that started it all some 15 years ago was back for another week long run as the Charger Basketball Camps filled Bullitt East with over 200 campers in the morning (girls) and afternoon sessions (boys).

    The camp is still under the direction of former Bullitt East Lady Charger head coach Jerry Troutman and present Lady Charger head coach Chris Stallings.

    Past and present Bullitt East players helped conduct the camps which were filled with fundamental work as well as knock-out, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games.

  • Cougar Basketball Camps

    Basketballs were bouncing at Bullitt Central recently with both the Cougar and Lady Cougar basketball camps being held.

    Coach Joe Pat Lee’s Cougar camp was held in the mornings had almost 100 players taking part.

    The group got a lot of basketball as well as a talk from University of Louisville football player Doug Beaumont who played basketball at Male when Lee was the freshman coach.

    The Lady Cougar camp was run under the direction of Bryan Bates and he had a almost 80 girls taking part.

  • Swannie Jett eager to take health department to next level

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - When told about the changes to the Bullitt County Public Health Department over the past 23 years, Swannie Jett is amazed.

    But as the new director of the public health agency, Jett is looking forward to continuing the growth experienced in the past three decades.

    Jett, who was recently introduced as the new director, said the challenges he faces are not the same as those experienced by retired leader Ned Fitzgibbons.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of July 13

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled in Bullitt County for the week of July 13:

    Bullitt County:

    KY 1442 (Ridge Road): Closed between mile points 1 and 2 on Wednesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for culvert replacement. Local access will be allowed, but not through traffic.

  • Eagle Basketball Camp

    HEBRON ESTATES - Basketball was the name of the game last week at the annual Eagle Hoops Camp at North Bullitt under the direction of Lee Barger. The morning and afternoon sessions totaled 155 campers for four days filled with shooting, dribbling and games.

  • Nita Neal to adjust after her 38 years at Bullitt East

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — Bullitt East Assistant Principal Nita Neal isn’t quite sure how she will adjust to retirement after 38 years in education.

    After all, it has been her dream to be an educator since she was in elementary school.

    “I decided in second grade that I’ve always loved school and I loved my teachers. I wanted other people to feel about me the way I felt about teachers,” she said.

  • Youth Fishing Day

    There were plenty of fish and plenty of young fishermen recently at the Kids Fishing Day at Beam Lake.

    The annual free event was sponsored by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department. The day was for youngsters younger than 15 to get a taste of fishing. There were a number of prizes given to the top fishermen that day.

    The event was held at Beam Lake across from the distillery on Highway 245 next to Bernheim Forest.

  • St. Clair death sentence at Supreme Court

    ELIZABETHTOWN - In a 180-degree turn from prosecutors’ long-standing opinions, special attorneys with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office chose last week to postpone a Hardin County re-trial of convicted killer Michael St. Clair until a Supreme Court ruling on his appeal of a Bullitt County death penalty is made.

    A Bullitt County jury found St. Clair guilty of the 1991 murder of Bardstown resident Frank Brady in 1998 and sentenced him to death, but that penalty was overturned by Kentucky’s Supreme Court in 2004.
