  • North Bullitt High School will really be cooking this summer

    HEBRON ESTATES – North Bullitt Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Olivia Farris thinks it’s a shame that more kids don’t grow up learning that cooking is not only fun, but a great learning experience.

    That’s why she is hosting her first-ever cooking camp that caters to kids ages 7 to 15.

    The camp will be fun for kids but parents can be assured that participants will be learning about healthy eating, cooking safety and even math skills.

  • Local entries bring excitement to Bullitt County Derby

    Inclement weather has made for sloppy conditions this year at Mike Farner Downs in the annual Bullitt County Derby.

    A strong field this season is led by the favorite, Road Pavey, an entry sponsored by Bullitt Fiscal Court and County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts.

    “He has a strong track record, plus he’s hard to catch,” Roberts said.

  • Section 3 Semi-State Baseball Tournament: Game two set for Wednesday

    HODGENVILLE - Game two of the best-of-three Section 3 Baseball Tournament will be played on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at LaRue County High School.

    Bullitt East will have to win to stay alive and force a deciding game on Thursday.

    The first game loss will force Bullitt East to send junior Matt Bowles to the mound on Wednesday, but he will only be able to pitch for six innings. High school pitching rules permit a player to only work 15 innings in a calendar week. Bowles threw nine innings last Thursday in the Sixth Region championship game against Butler.

  • Search continues for man lost on lake; may be from Bullitt County

    Update: June 1

    TAYLORSVILLE - The search continues today for a Bullitt County man involved in a Taylorsville Lake boating accident.

    According to Spencer County Sheriff's officials, the search continued over the weekend but as of Monday the body still had not been recovered.

    Officials have not released the name of the missing man.

    Spencer County dispatch received the call of a single-boat accident shortly after 10 a.m. Friday. Only one individual is believed to be involved.

  • Recovery difficult process for Dohn

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Mount Washington resident Thrissie Dohn traveled the longest road to the Bullitt County Partners in Prevention community meth forum.

    Dohn was one of the event’s headline speakers along with Bullitt County Drug Task Force director Kenny Hardin.

    Along with Hardin’s experience and expertise in meth production and its effects, Dohn featured a first-hand view of the meth lifestyle and how it controlled her life for several years.

  • Drug task force on record pace in busting meth

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Detectives with the Bullitt County Drug Task Force busted their 22nd methamphetamine lab of 2009 last Thursday night.

    According to Kenny Hardin, director of the task force, officers were investigating a narcotics complaint at 4471 Zoneton Road when they saw vapors and smelled odors coming from a garage.

    Upon entering the garage, they arrested Anthony Hutchins, 19, of Louisville, and Daniel Conley, 20, of Louisville. Neither were listed as the property owners.

  • Council again asked to consider reopening road

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Another attempt to reopen Salt River Plant Road may soon be presented to Shepherdsville councilmembers

    Councilman Larry Hatfield asked that fellow board members go visit the street that had previously served as a short-cut between Beech Grove Road and South Preston Highway.

    The road was closed at the Beech Grove Road end due to concerns voiced by several residents.

    At the time of the closing, residents complained that motorists were traveling at a high rate of speed with no regard to youngsters who might be playing in or near the road.

  • Army copter visits school

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - An United States Army AH-64D Apache helicopter made an appearance at Shepherdsville Elementary Friday morning.

    The helicopter, stationed at Ft. Knox, arrived at 9:45 a.m., delighting Shepherdsville students and causing concerned looks by Bullitt Lick Middle School faculty and surrounding neighbors.

    Shepherdsville principal David Pate said the helicopter visit was kept low-key due to impending weather problems.

    MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The Creative Young Builders of Robotic Gadgets are at it again -- building robots and creating plans to help save the earth.

    This weekend the CYBORGs will travel to Wright-Patterson Air Force Bace in Ohio to compete in the FIRST LEGO League United States Open Championship.

  • Developer says draft on subdivision regulations will hurt county's growth

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - As local planners continue to work on preparing its zoning regulations and subdivisions standards to meet federal storm water guidelines, some believe they are going too far.

    Richard Miles, owner of Dogwood Homes and president of the Louisville Homebuilders Association, talked with Bullitt Fiscal Court members recently about his concerns over the updates being worked on by the Bullitt County Joint Planning Commission.

    The work, which has stretched out over several years, has gotten closer to a conclusion.
