  • BREAKING NEWS: Firefighters control Publishers burn

    LEBANON JUNCTION - No one was injured after a fire took place at the Publishers Printing Lebanon Junction location Tuesday afternoon.

    A small fire was reported in the roof area of the facility after 5 p.m.

    Lebanon Junction Fire units responded to the scene. They will able to distinguish the blaze within the hour.

  • Eagles get single run needed to triumph over Southern

    FAIRDALE - It was the game everyone expected.

    North Bullitt ace Matt Wagner versus Southern ace Reggie Young.

    In a game in which one run might make the difference, the North Bullitt Eagles got that single run across the plate Wednesday to win 1-0 over the Trojans in the semifinals of the 24th District baseball tournament at Fairdale High School.

    While Wagner and Young were mowing down batters, it was junior Aric Hester who came up with the big hit for the Eagles.

  • Staples heads BC's sweep in HJ

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central is a long way from a powerhouse track school, but the Cougar program is making a name for itself in one event - the high jump.

    In the previous decade, Bullitt Central had just two athletes advance to the Kentucky State Track and Field Championships - Rachel Haley (multiple times) and Nic Owens. Both advanced each time in the high jump with Owens finishing third in the boys’ event in 2005.

    The problem is much more serious than we ever imagined.

    When one thinks of drowning incidents, seldom do we think about deaths being caused by people literally being trapped under water by infiltration pumps.

    However, it has happened on numerous occasions.

    Now, sit appears that some, if not all, of the four county swimming pools may not open this summer.

  • Lady Eagles to move on to semifinals in regional softball tourney

    FAIRDALE - North Bullitt and Southern set up a rematch of last year's 24th District Softball Tournament championship game on Tuesday when both team's eased into the final on the strength of one big inning.

    In the first game, North Bullitt took advantage of what at the time appeared to be a minor miscue by Bullitt Central to roll to a 6-0 victory.

    Southern scored three times in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead over Bullitt East and they went on to record a 6-2 win.

  • Lieber, Meyer first home in Mt. Washington Spring Run

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - An influx of young runners swelled the number of entrants in the Mount Washington Spring Festival Run to the largest field ever with 378 taking part.

    The young runners were part of a push to develop an elementary school age event. Students and teachers participated from Pleasant Grove Elementary, Mount Washington Elementary and Old Mill Elementary.

    The Elementary Fun Run covered half a mile. Those runners started after the regular runners and most were done before the top finishers got back to the finish line.

  • MWMS's Okruch wins state discus

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Mount Washington Middle School eighth-grader Andrew Okruch came through on his final throw Saturday to win the state championship in the discus at the Kentucky Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association Middle School State Championships.

    The event was held at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington.

    Bullitt East track coach Lenny Raley took seven middle school athletes that will feed into his program to Lexington for the meet. All of the runners competed under the Bullitt East name.

  • Six titles in a row feels sweet at Bullitt East

    FAIRDALE - Winning never gets old.

    That’s good for the Bullitt East baseball program as the red and gold picked up a sixth straight district baseball title on Thursday when they beat North Bullitt 9-1. It was the fourth consecutive win in the 24th District after the team won the last two titles in the old 29th District.

    This year’s senior class is the third to play for head coach Jeff Bowles and to never have lost a district tournament game.

  • Chargers move past Portland Christian in regional tourney

    LOUISVILLE - The Bullitt East Chargers had a tight game for a couple of innings Monday before pulling away for a 14-4 victory over Portland Christian in the opening round of the Sixth Region baseball tournament.

    Coach Jeff Bowles' team advances to a 5 p.m. game on Wednesday against DeSales, which turned back Holy Cross behind the pitching of Bullitt Countian Jay Barnett.

    The winner on Wednesday will advance to the championship game on Thursday at 8 p.m. at University of Louisville's Patterson Field, site of the semifinal match as well.

  • Bullitt East Baseball advances to state finals

    HODGENVILLE - The Bullitt East Chargers baseball team advances to the state tournament with a win in the deciding game of the Section 3 Semi-State Baseball Tournament.

    Bullitt East took two out of three from Elizabethtown, winning the final game 6-0 Saturday night.

    The win qualified Bullitt East for the state tournament hosted at Applebee's Park in Lexington. They are scheduled to play Thursday against South Laurel at 1:30 p.m.

    Bullitt East enters the state tournament with a 30-8 record.

    Justin Jones was named Semi-State Tournament MVP.
