  • Hillview hopes state program prescription will lower prices

    HILLVIEW -- One of the biggest problems in the United States is the rising cost of health care.

    Hillview mayor Jim Eadens hopes his city could be a leader in the county in alerting the public to know there are ways to receive free and reduced medical prescriptions.

    Through the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program, communities in the state have an opportunity to provide a service for their residents.

  • County facing $2 million shortfall

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Needing to make up a $2.7 million deficit in the upcoming 2009-10 county budget, three dozen employees may see their work and their salaries cut by 20 percent.

    Bullitt County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts presented her proposed budget to magistrates on Thursday. The proposed budget must be presented by May 1.

    But magistrates say the final document, which must be approved by June 30, will have several changes, including a way to eliminate the need for some non-emergency county agencies to go to 32-hour work weeks.

  • Track's new era starts Saturday

    SHEPHERDSVILLE -- High school track and field in Kentucky will enter a new era starting this week as the KHSAA has realigned the sport overall as well as revamping the qualifying standards for those reaching and competing at the state championships.

    As with most changes, there is some good and some bad and it will take a little while to get used to things. The growing pains will start on Saturday as track teams across the state to compete in regional meets.

  • NB-Southern to try again Wednesday

    HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Eagles will try for a third and final time on Wednesday of this week to play district rival Southern.

    Twice earlier this season the two teams have been rained out. This is the final game left in the regular season between 24th District teams.

    The KHSAA gave all district teams an extension late last week to play intra-district contests because of all the bad weather this spring. The old deadline was on Sunday and it has now been extended to Thursday.

  • 8th Region tennis starts in Frankfort

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The first spring sport to move into the post-season will be tennis as the Bullitt County programs start Eighth Region play Monday morning in Frankfort.

    This will be the fourth straight season that the local teams have competed in the Eighth Region.

    The boys’ teams will once again play all of their matches on Monday and Tuesday at Franklin County High School. The girls’ will play their opening rounds at Western Hills High School. Action on Monday will start at 9:30 a.m. with matches all day. Play on Tuesday will resume at 4:30 p.m.

  • Missing Hillview girl located

    HILLVIEW - A 17-year-old girl from northern Bullitt County reported missing since April 29 was located Thursday morning.

    According to Det. Scotty McGaha of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department, Tori Lynne Bowen had not contacted anyone since leaving the Hillview home in April.

    McGaha said the girl had not run away or left home before and she has contacted none of her friends at school.

    Also, she didn't call her mother on Mother's Day and McGaha said the two were very close.

  • Lady Chargers' Knight heads local girls' tennis

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Bullitt East’s McKaela Knight will be looking to secure a high seed when the sophomore and her Lady Charger teammates head to South Oldham on Monday in one of the final tune-ups for the upcoming regional tournament.

    A year ago, Knight was seeded fourth in the regional tournament, a spot behind teammate Tabitha Collins. Unfortunately, some youthful jitters got her early in the tourney and she was sent to the sidelines by a player that she had beaten during the regular season.

  • Take a cut for the Relay for Life

    CEDAR GROVE -- Reaching the goal in Alliance Entertainment’s first year of Bullitt County Relay for Life fundraising was a close shave.

    Alliance employees surpassed the goal by almost $500. The close shave was courtesy of Returns Department manager Tom Fay.

    As part of the fundraising incentive, Fay promised to have his hair and goatee shaved if the company met the fundraising goal.

    Derrick Sermonis, owner of D’s Barber Shop in Meade County, performed the shaving honors.

  • Relay for Life set for Friday night at NBHS

    HEBRON ESTATES - Bullitt County takes prides every May in being one of Kentucky’s largest supporters of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

    Each year teams and individuals make their way to North Bullitt High School’s track area setting up campsites and walking continuously throughout the night in honor of cancer victims and survivors.

  • Support Relay for Life Friday

    A rally cry for both young and old in Bullitt County has been the annual Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.

    While Bullitt County has its way to fighting at times against one another, it has a way to also pull together at times of need.

    There is no bigger need than finding a cure for cancer. Every family in Bullitt County has been touched by the dreaded disease in some way or another.

    Once a year, the community comes together to raise over $200,000 for cancer research.
