SHEPHERDSVILLE - The daunting task of preparing a budget that will be balanced and eliminate the need for county employees to take a 20 percent cuts in pay in some departments has begun.

A committee of magistrates Joe Laswell and Eddie Bleemel began asking questions and trying to find out answers on Tuesday. The next committee meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in the fiscal courtroom.

HILLVIEW -- One of the biggest problems in the United States is the rising cost of health care.

Hillview mayor Jim Eadens hopes his city could be a leader in the county in alerting the public to know there are ways to receive free and reduced medical prescriptions.

Through the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program, communities in the state have an opportunity to provide a service for their residents.

SHEPHERDSVILLE -- High school track and field in Kentucky will enter a new era starting this week as the KHSAA has realigned the sport overall as well as revamping the qualifying standards for those reaching and competing at the state championships.

As with most changes, there is some good and some bad and it will take a little while to get used to things. The growing pains will start on Saturday as track teams across the state to compete in regional meets.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The first spring sport to move into the post-season will be tennis as the Bullitt County programs start Eighth Region play Monday morning in Frankfort.

This will be the fourth straight season that the local teams have competed in the Eighth Region.

The boys’ teams will once again play all of their matches on Monday and Tuesday at Franklin County High School. The girls’ will play their opening rounds at Western Hills High School. Action on Monday will start at 9:30 a.m. with matches all day. Play on Tuesday will resume at 4:30 p.m.
