  • MW teen killed in ATV accident

        MOUNT WASHINGTON -  A local teen was pronounced dead late Tuesday afternoon following an All Terrain Vehicle accident on the corner of Flatlick Road and Wales Run Road.

        Lt. Col. Larry Coy of the Bullitt County Sheriffs Office said 18-year-old Matthew Mullins was riding an ATV up and down Flatlick Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle before running into a utility pole guard wire.

  • Eastside to join Bullitt Lick at world competition

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - In a matter of weeks, members of the Eastside Middle School archery team will pack their bags and head down to Orlando, Fla., where they will compete with archery teams from across the globe in the annual National Archery in the Schools Program World Invitational.

    While the team has competed in several NASP tournaments since becoming the first archery program in Bullitt County Public Schools, this year will mark Eastside’s first World competition.

  • National focus on getting rid of old prescription pills works

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - As the war on drugs rages in the streets and abroad, a recent phenomena has brought the front lines into American homes where some of the most dangerous and commonly used drugs can be found by simply opening the medicine cabinet.

        With prescription drug abuse becoming the fastest growing drug problem in  the country, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration recently began a National Prescription Drug Take-Back campaign in an effort to prevent pill abuse and theft.

  • Lady Eagles make it two straight over Lady Cougars 4-0

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Two teams with newfound confidence collided on Wednesday at Bullitt Central in the second game of the season between the Lady Cougars and the North Bullitt Lady Eagles.

    The first meeting belonged to the Lady Eagles and standout forward Halee Heltsley who scored three times in a 5-0 North Bullitt victory. In the rematch, Bullitt Central assigned senior Ashleigh Pollard to shadow Heltsley and the move worked to some degree.

    Heltsley did score twice in the first half and then added a goal in the second half to propel North Bullitt to a 4-0 win.

  • BE girls ready for the big show in Bowling Green

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Lady Charger golf team will head to Bowling Green on Monday to compete in the Leachman Buick Girls’ Kentucky State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.

        This will be the first time that a complete Bullitt County girls’ golf team has reached this point. The Lady Chargers qualified by finishing second in last week’s Region 3 event at the Elizabethtown Country Club.

  • East in fight for last play-off spot

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - The message can’t get any clearer for the Bullitt East Chargers heading into Friday night’s game in Hodgenville against LaRue County.

        Coming off the 18-6 loss to North Bullitt, the Chargers will have just one mantra this week - ‘just win.’ It can’t get any more simple than that.

  • United Way looks for more support

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - Companies and employees have been generous in their support over the past eight years for the Metro United Way’s campaigns in Bullitt County.

        But there is so much more potential.

        The task for Roberta Steutermann, donor relationship manager for Bullitt, Oldham and Shelby counties, and the Bullitt County chapter board is to increase the contributions to meet the ever-growing needs.

        The veteran coach has learned that you can’t pull the wool over the eyes of the modern, internet savvy high school student. There is also the fact that the modern football player watches a lot of video of upcoming opponents.

  • Mobile home and two sheds destroyed by fire

        SHEPHERDSVILLE – A mobile home and two sheds along Ridge Road were left in ruins on Friday afternoon following a fire.    

        Southeast Bullitt and Zoneton Fire units responded to the scene around 2:00 p.m. according to Bullitt County Dispatch.

        Southeast Fire Asst. Chief Erik Butler said the mobile home and both the sheds were total losses; fortunately, no one was in any of the structures.

  • NB volleyball earns top seed

        HEBRON ESTATES - The North Bullitt Lady Eagles wrapped up the top-seed for the post-season district tournament on Tuesday with an impressive 25-19, 25-16 victory over Bullitt Central.

        The win was the fifth straight against district rivals this season for the green and gold with only a game remaining against Spencer County on Thursday.
