  • Bullitt East is still undefeated with a 4-0 start in boys' tennis

MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East boys’ tennis team is off to a quick start to the 2009 season, going undefeated through the first three weeks of the regular season.

The most recent win came on Thursday when coach Dustin Armstrong’s team traveled to Shepherdsville and beat Bullitt Central 5-0. The squad also has a 5-0 victory over North Bullitt earlier in the campaign.

The Chargers have also beaten Whitefield Academy 3-2 as well as Seneca 4-1. A match with Oldham County on Friday was rained out.

  • Recent snubs seem out of line for Bullitt County

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Over the past few years, Bullitt County athletes and teams have garnered more and more respect - most of it earned and given with good cause.

However, every so often some things happen that just make you say out loud ‘what were they thinking?’

That has happened a handful of times over the past month or so.

First, Kentucky’s high school football coaches voted recently to select two teams for an East-West All-Star game that will be played on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

  • Central blows out Fern Creek 12-2

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central hasn’t had a lot of success over the past decade or so in baseball, but third-year head coach Tommy Alvey feels that his team is just a few breaks away from having a winning record this year.

That was the case again last week as the team went 1-2. Even though the team was blanked in a perfect game by North Bullitt’s Matt Wagner, the Cougars only lost the game 1-0.

The maroon and gray then came back to blister Fern Creek 12-2 in five innings before falling to Jeffersontown 10-4 on Saturday.

  • BC's Hester selected for Kentucky All-Star try-outs

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central senior Lindsay Hester picked up a major basketball honor earlier this week when she was selected as one of 39 players to try-out for the Girls’ Kentucky All-Star team.

Seven players from the Louisville area were picked for the try-outs which will be held April 17-18 at Campbellsville University.

Skills for Success coordinator Gelena Ballard said Kosair Goody Bags was originally created as a service project for North Bullitt’s Beta Club. This was the first year the Skills for Success program participated.

  • Tennessee road trip provides four victories for North Bullitt

HEBRON ESTATES - A spring break trip to the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains turned out to be a positive adventure for the North Bullitt Eagles last week as coach Brian Wise’s team won four of five games.

That action left the team with a 5-3 mark after the first two weeks of the regular season.

“We were promised five games in four days and we got that in,” Wise said on Monday. “It was a good thing for us to get all the games in. All-in-all, it was a successful week.”

  • Charger spring break trip had both sun and fun

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Behind some strong pitching, the Bullitt East Chargers returned home from a spring break trip to Florida with a perfect 4-0 mark for the first time.

  • East girls took a big step; ready for next step

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Before the season began, Bullitt East Lady Charger head coach Chris Stallings talked about using a lot of players early in the season and then paring that number down in the second half of the season.

As it turned out, his players never made that possible. The Lady Chargers ended up just as likely to use 12 players in a big game in February as they were in December. Few teams in the state turned out to be as deep as the red and gold.

  • Projects to bring beauty planned this Saturday

“We have several places where we want to clean,” she said.
