SHEPHERDSVILLE - Over the past few years, Bullitt County athletes and teams have garnered more and more respect - most of it earned and given with good cause.

However, every so often some things happen that just make you say out loud ‘what were they thinking?’

That has happened a handful of times over the past month or so.

First, Kentucky’s high school football coaches voted recently to select two teams for an East-West All-Star game that will be played on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Central senior Lindsay Hester picked up a major basketball honor earlier this week when she was selected as one of 39 players to try-out for the Girls’ Kentucky All-Star team.

Seven players from the Louisville area were picked for the try-outs which will be held April 17-18 at Campbellsville University.

HEBRON ESTATES - A spring break trip to the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains turned out to be a positive adventure for the North Bullitt Eagles last week as coach Brian Wise’s team won four of five games.

That action left the team with a 5-3 mark after the first two weeks of the regular season.

“We were promised five games in four days and we got that in,” Wise said on Monday. “It was a good thing for us to get all the games in. All-in-all, it was a successful week.”

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Before the season began, Bullitt East Lady Charger head coach Chris Stallings talked about using a lot of players early in the season and then paring that number down in the second half of the season.

As it turned out, his players never made that possible. The Lady Chargers ended up just as likely to use 12 players in a big game in February as they were in December. Few teams in the state turned out to be as deep as the red and gold.
