    Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency, Inc. has begun the “Crisis” portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that assists households in a heating crisis on January 5, 2009.

    The deepening of cold weather combined with rising costs leaves many households unable to fully meet heating bills of purchase sufficient bulk fuel to keep their families safe and warm. Your local Community Action Partnership (CAP) stands ready to help!

  • Chargers' only problem was an inability to beat Fairdale

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Not much went wrong for the Bullitt East Chargers over the final two months of the 2008-09 basketball season.

    Well, at least nothing went wrong that didn’t involve the word ‘Fairdale.’

    After losing to Fairdale on Jan. 9, Bullitt East would finish the season winning 12 of the next 14 games. Unfortunately, both of those losses were to the Bulldogs, 87-68 on Feb. 4 and then a 60-45 setback in the semi-finals of the 24th District Tournament.

  • Lady Cougars had a dream season up to the end

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - For three months, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars had a dream season.

    In one half of one game, the final page of the story turned into a nightmare.

    Still, veteran head coach Bryan Bates is telling everyone that you have to look at a season as a complete package. In that regard, the Lady Cougars were very successful this winter, finishing with a 19-8 record.

  • MWMS' Carver combines love of teaching, science to earn honors

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — For the second time in two years Mount Washington Middle School has proudly produced Bullitt County’s Middle School Teacher of the Year.

    This year seventh grade science teacher Stephanie Carver is the honor’s recipient.

    Carver was recognized for doing a job that doesn’t really feel much like work to her at all.

    “Every day I get to combine my love for science with my love for teaching,” she said.

  • Tinelli brings talents in engineering to classroom

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — Kristy Tinelli excelled at math and science from a young age. So much so, that everyone around her expected her to become a doctor or engineer.

    Giving in to those expectations, Tinelli pursued a degree in chemical engineering. She left her Mount Washington home and moved to Virginia where she had a successful seven-year career in chemical engineering.

    Until one day she realized that she wanted more than just a career.

  • North Bullitt students, staff give their blood up for others

    HEBRON ESTATES – In JROTC, cadets learn that donating blood is much more important than the alternative.

    North Bullitt JROTC students combined their efforts with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive in the school’s gymnasium.

    Maj. Kevin Clark said over 50 JROTC members volunteered services. He praised the group for preparing the event in just two weeks while simultaneously planning another major event.

    “These kids were very conscientious, they had everything ready,” said Clark. “We had everything we needed at hand.”

    A recent federal report entitled, “Underage Alcohol Use: Where Do Young People Drink?” sheds some revealing light on this question and the answers that many parents, other concerned caretakers and inquiring minds want to know.

    The 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) asked young people ages 12 to 20 who had used alcohol in the past month two questions: how did they get it and where did they drink it?

  • Hasch conviction appealed; bond request approved

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A woman found guilty of reckless homicide in the shooting death of her husband could be released from jail as she awaits an appeal of the jury’s decision.

    However, if Janice Hasch is to be released from custody, it would require a $500,000 cash bond.

    Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress listened to arguments Tuesday afternoon.

    Defense attorneys Butch Turner and Fredrick Friske requested a $25,000 cash bond for the Class D felony.

    Prosecutor Michael Mann requested the bond be increased to $1 million cash.
