  • Black Thursday: Bullitt County teams erased in 24th District semi-finals

    HEBRON ESTATES - For the first time in at least 35 years, no Bullitt County boys’ basketball team played a district final this season.

    That was assured on Thursday when both Bullitt East and Bullitt Central were knocked from the 24th District tournament which was played at North Bullitt.

    It was just a bad night for the Chargers as they once again came up short against new arch-rival Fairdale. This time it was a 60-45 decision that marked the fourth straight loss for the Chargers to the Bulldogs and the third time this season.

  • Debris drop-off site open through March 14

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – Bullitt County residents have just a few more days to get rid of their storm-related debris.

    Bullitt Fiscal Court voted to allow the debris collection site at the Bullitt County Stockyards to remain open through Saturday, March 14.

    The site will be open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The site will be closed on Sundays.

    The final day will be March 14.

    The county is not doing curbside pickup of debris.

  • Play to premiere on Thursday night

    SHEPHERDSVILLE — There is a magical world premier taking place in Shepherdsville this week and it could mark the beginning of a local community theatre legacy.

    This Thursday, the Bullitt County Arts Council’s Bullitt County Theatre Company will perform its first-ever performance of playwright Bill Breuer’s The Faery’s Kiss, a romantic comedy fairy tale.

    The performance is taking place at the Bullitt Central High School auditorium with showings March 5-8 and March 12-15.

  • Grand Slam promotion: Over 900 take advantage of free breakfast at local Denny's

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Normally a grand slam causes a stir during the World Series, not the Super Bowl.

    Because of a nationally televised commercial during the third quarter of the Super Bowl XLIII broadcast, Bullitt Countians almost tackled the Shepherdsville Denny’s Restaurant.

    The commercial announced that all Denny’s locations nationwide would offer a free Grand Slam breakfast the Tuesday following the game from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The offer included the Bullitt County location, which remained crowded during those hours last Tuesday.

  • Lee, 11th, scores NB's first state swim points

    LOUISVILLE – With an 11th place finish in the 2009 Parnell Swim Shop/Kentucky Swimming and Diving Championships, North Bullitt sophomore Caroline Lee became the first Eagle swimmer to score points in the state finals.

    In fact, Lee is the first North Bullitt swimmer to advance to the final meet of the high school season.

    Lee, competing in her first Kentucky Swimming and Diving Championships after moving to the area from Texas, had the 12th fastest time on Friday in the preliminaries of the Girls’ 100-yard breaststroke. That time was 1:09.27.

  • Walls, Bennett come up just short of goals

    FRANKFORT - When your hopes and expectations rest solely on one prize, anything else is a disappointment.

    That was the situation Bullitt Central wrestlers Jeremiah Walls and Akeem Bennett found themselves in Saturday at the Kentucky State Wrestling Tournament in Frankfort.

    Each of the seniors had medaled a year ago and were ranked amongst the top wrestlers in their weight classes this season.

    But, the ultimate prize eluded both wrestlers before they could get to Saturday night’s championship matches.

  • Artists honored for their work

    During the monthly meeting of the Visual Artists of Bullitt County, winners were selected.

    Carole Powell and Jeannie Bailey were tied for first place honors. Gail Bagwell was second for her still lilfe painting.

    The meeting was held Jan. 27 at the Ridgway Memorial Library with Ruth Chowning of the extension office speaking on the Barn Quilts project. Eight people were present.

  • Grandmother claims missing granddaughter could be in Bullitt County

    A Louisville teen has been reported missing and could be in Bullitt County, according to her grandmother who resides in Mount Washington.

    Fifteen-year-old Jessica Bara of Louisville was last sighted March 2 near a McDonald's and Domino's Pizza on Preston Highway in the Okolona area, said Bara's grandmother, Mount Washington resident Vicky Beatty.

    Beatty said Bara attends Southern High School and has been missing from her home since Feb. 24.

  • Fairdale stuns Lady Cougars; North battles East to the end

    HEBRON ESTATES - There was nothing but heartbreak for the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars on Wednesday as their dream season came to a premature end when they were upset by Fairdale by a 62-58 count in the semi-finals of the 24th District Tournament which was being played at North Bullitt.

    The Lady Cougars had beaten Fairdale twice during the regular season, although, both games were decided by less than nine points.

  • 24th District Basketball Tournament: Lady Chargers pull away late to beat Fairdale

    HEBRON ESTATES - When the season began, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers had a lot of goals. The most pressing of those goals being to win the first Girls’ 24th District title by a Bullitt County team.

    Coach Chris Stallings’ squad got that check mark out of the way on Friday as they pulled away late from three-time defending champion Fairdale for a 58-41 victory.

    Bullitt East (22-8) seemingly had control of the game from the outset, but it wasn’t until the last four minutes that the team could take a deep breath and start celebrating.
