  • Agencies await stimulus decisions

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The state of Kentucky is supposed to get millions of dollars from the federal stimulus program.

    Bullitt County officials are expecting some of that money to filter down to the local level.

    But while Metro Louisville officials seem to have a pretty good idea what might be coming its way, Bullitt County officials have heard nothing from Frankfort.

    Keith Davis, superintendent for the Bullitt County Public School System, sent in a list with $31 million worth of projects.

  • American Red Cross Valentine Gala 2009

    The Valentine Gala is an annual fund-raiser for the Bullitt/Spencer County chapter of the American Red Cross.

    Featuring dinner music by Hans Sander and dance music by Karen Kraft and Kiks.

    Service Manager Mike Crenshaw played the good sport during the group's annual Valentine Gala as he agreed to sing with Karen Kraft. Crenshaw had the chance to sing Respect but quickly made an exit from the stage.

  • Saylor to referee girls state tourney this week

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt County resident Ronnie Saylor will reach the pinnacle of his part-time love affair with basketball when he works as a referee in this week’s Girls’ Kentucky State Basketball Tournament in Bowling Green.

    Saylor has worked for 23 years as a referee in the Eighth Region, but this will be his first stint refereeing in a state tournament.

    “At the high school level it’s the highest mark you can have,” Saylor said earlier this week.

  • Annual Style Show will again honor academic leaders

    SHEPHERDSVILLE — For 85 years Bullitt County Woman’s Club members have been champions for education, style and community service.

    Those values will be the focus at this year’s 38th-Annual Irene Carroll Scholarship Luncheon and Style Show scheduled for March 21 at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    “We’re kind of building the whole show around that theme,” said style show co-coordinator Jennifer Porter. “This is our 85th birthday. We’re the oldest civic organization in Bullitt County.”

  • Guthrie enjoying time spent so far in Washington despite office

    PIONEER VILLAGE - Brett Guthrie claims to have the 435th best office in the U.S. House of Representatives.

    There are only 435 members of the House but Brett Guthrie is proud to be serving in the U.S. Congress no matter that he was the last congressman to select his office space.

    Guthrie was elected in November to fill the vacant seat caused by U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis’ decision not to run for re-election.

    “It is an interesting time in Washington,” Guthrie told those gathered for the Bullitt County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

  • Work on Highway 44 needed; timing still unknown

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – The first phase of a major Highway 44 road project is progressing, but it’s impossible to tell if or when the plans will come to fruition.

    A lack of funding could cause the proposed enhancements for Highway 44 between Kings Church Road and Bardstown Road to still be years away.

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet conducted a public meeting Tuesday to gather additional  feedback on the plans, which include up to five lanes in front of Bullitt East High School and three lanes in lesser traveled areas.

  • Three arrested in meth raid; child removed

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Three people have been arrested and a child sent to a family member after a home was raided early Wednesday morning.

    According to Kenny Hardin, director of the Bullitt County Drug Task Force, a search warrant was received for a home in the 500 Block of South Preston Highway in Salt River.

    The task force, joined by members of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department, found ingredients needed to manufacture methamphetamine.

    Hardin said officers arrived about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday as three adults were prepared items needed to make the illegal drug.

  • Student confesses to prank, faces charges

    HEBRON ESTATES – A North Bullitt High School student confessed to a dangerous prank and will be charged with arson.

    The father of a 17-year-old North Bullitt senior delivered a letter of confession from the student to the Bullitt County Sheriffs Office Monday morning.

    Chief deputy Danny Thompson said the student would be charged with arson first-degree and tried in juvenile court.

    Jaime Goldsmith, Safe and Drug Free Schools director for Bullitt County Public Schools, said the student would be recommended for expulsion.

  • MW to put rate hike into play for sewers

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — Water and sewer rates are going up and city officials agree there is no way to avoid it.

    Mount Washington has few options for financing a new sewer treatment plant, Louisville water rate hikes and other rising water and sewer expenses.

    Mayor Joetta Calhoun said the city cannot bear the costly burdens alone and that equals unprecedented rate hikes for its water and sewer customers, estimated at 17.5 percent for the second half of 2009 and another increase of 17.5 percent in 2010.
