  • Council asked to look at civil service

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was passed several years ago with much discussion but little fanfare from the public.

    But since its adoption, the Shepherdsville civil service ordinance has raised much comment and has been a key point of discussion in two elections.

    Councilman Larry Hatfield would like his fellow board members to study the current ordinance to determine if changes are needed.

    Under the current ordinance, all city employees, including department heads, are protected from termination without the recourse of a hearing before a three-member civil service board.

  • NB's Elmore signs to play football at Kentucky Wesleyan

    HEBRON ESTATES - North Bullitt senior D.J. Elmore will get his dream as he will play football at the next level after signing a National Letter of Intent last week to attend Kentucky Wesleyan University in Owensboro.

    Kentucky Wesleyan made the first contact with the Eagle football program according to North Bullitt head coach Brett Newton and they knew what they were looking for. The team already has former North Bullitt player Corey Downing on its roster.

  • Young Achiever: Morgan Ward honored for her desire to assist others

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Morgan Ward has spent almost 10 years being fostered by the values and numerous programs offered by Bullitt County’s YMCA.

    From her love for children to helping at the front desk, Ward has wanted to be a YMCA volunteer since the time she joined with her mother, Laurie, and father, Donald.

    Ward, 15, is now a Red Shirt Volunteer at Bullitt County’s YMCA. Although Ward she isn’t paid for her time, there’s no place she would rather be.

  • BC's Walls, Bennett win regional mat titles

    LOUISVILLE - The drive to the Kentucky State Wrestling Championships stayed on the main road on Saturday for Bullitt Central standouts Jeremiah Walls and Akeem Bennett as both won titles at the Region 3 meet at the Hoops Sports Academy.

    With the top finishes of Walls and Bennett, Bullitt Central accumulated enough points to finish fifth overall. While the two seniors were the only regional winners, the Cougar program had six wrestlers total advance to the this week’s Kentucky State Championships in Frankfort along with one alternate.

  • Students sing high praise of program allowing them to get college credits

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Seven students are earning college credits while still attending their respective high schools.

    In the future, they hope many more will take advantage of this unique opportunity between the Bullitt County Public School System and the Jefferson Community Technical College program.

    In its first year, JCTC coordinator Donna Miller said it has been a very successful partnership. And there are plans to make it even more successful and more accessible in the future.

  • Sewer expansion projects stopped

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The hopes of extending a sewer line south of the city limits and expanding its current treatment plant met with a major roadblock Monday night.

    After looking since last August at a project to bring service to places such as the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont and the proposed community and technical college on Highway 245, Shepherdsville city councilmembers somberly announced Monday that the $20 million project was dead.

    In the last of many executive sessions, the council discussed the matter for just over an hour.

  • Close call

    HILLVIEW - A collision between a pickup truck and a train snarled rush hour traffic Thursday morning.

    Hillview Police were called at 7:41 a.m. when a 1992 blue and white Ford F-150 pickup truck, headed westbound on Brooks Hill Road, collided with the train and wound up south of the crossing near Highway 1020.

    The driver, Bernardo Trevino of Louisville, was not injured. Hillview Police Ofc. Darren Vires said a CSX train engineer reported that Trevino left the vehicle just seconds prior to impact.

  • Seniors want funding

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - They had a very clear message for state Rep. Linda Belcher.

    They wanted her to do whatever was possible to make sure funding continued to keep the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency’s senior center in Shepherdsville open.

    Two dozen senior citizens recently met with Belcher as she gathered input on things she needs to address as the General Assembly returns for its short off-year session in Frankfort.

    Belcher, who is on the senior citizens committee, said she needed the input to better do her job representing them.
