  • KHSAA assigns locals to a 4-team district alignment

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - One of the late moves allowed by the KHSAA in the football alignment process for the 2011-2014 season affected the three local programs, but it was in a positive way when the Board of Control voted on the final proposal last week.

        Instead of competing in the five-team district that had been on the planning board for the past month, Bullitt Central, North Bullitt and Bullitt East were assigned to Region 2, District 4 of Class 5-A along with Shelby County High School.

  • Storms cause BCPS afternoon preschool closures

        Bullitt County Public Schools have canceled Tuesday afternoon Preschool classes due to severe weather conditions.

        A statement by BCPS informed that children already picked up would be returned to their homes as weather conditions improve. Students would remain at or be returned to schools if no parents were available at home. The affected students would be transported home later via regularly scheduled elementary school bus routes.

  • Chargers, Lady Cougars capture county CC titles

        LOUISVILLE - In what is becoming an annual tradition, the local cross-country programs used the DeSales Invitational on Saturday at McNeely Lake Park in southern Jefferson County as a de facto Bullitt County Championships.

        The course at McNeely Lake Park is difficult and is at times used by all three of the programs for hill work during practice sessions.

        On Saturday, five of the six local programs fielded full teams which is very impressive for the sport at the local level.

  • Unexplained fire leaves MW residence charred

        MOUNT WASHINGTON - An unexplained vehicle fire resulted in the total loss of a garage and two vehicles while causing untold damage to the home of Ray and Emma Noah on Lloyd Lane.

        On Friday Mount Washington and Zoneton Fire units responded to 585 Lloyd Lane around 11:27 a.m. after it was reported that one of the vehicles in the home’s attached garage had caught fire, according to Mount Washington Fire Capt. Mike Graves.

  • Vigil points out problems of abuse

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Center for Women and Families Bullitt County branch continues toward its community education goals by hosting a candlelight vigil to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

    Fifty participants gathered in the courtyard of the Bullitt County Courthouse to show their respect to the state’s domestic violence victims.

    Founded in 1912 as part of the Louisville YWCA, CWF provides emergency shelter, transitional housing and supportive services to victims of intimate partner abuse or sexual violence.

  • Barbers keep tradition of job alive throughout the county

        SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Fifty years ago, if a man wanted a haircut he went to his local barbershop.

        There he could get a trim or a shave from his trusted barber and spend hours hanging out with the guys, catching up on the news of the day.

        Today, if a man wants a haircut he usually goes to a franchise salon where he can get in and out.

        Though franchise operations now dominate the haircutting scene, the old fashioned barbershop is far from extinct.

  • Second forum gets a bit more captivating

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - A crowd of about 50 people avoided conflicts with local festivals and college football games to listen to the views of a few candidates seeking office on Nov. 2.

        The second in a series of forums was held at the VFW Post in Shepherdsville. And this one had a little more fireworks than the initial gathering.

  • High-octane Cougars run past Doss in district race

        LOUISVILLE - It might not have been 48 minutes of perfection, but it was 40 minutes of pretty good football by the Bullitt Central Cougars on Thursday as they overpowered Doss 45-34 in a key Class 5-A district contest.
