  • Recent successes seem so long-ago for North Bullitt

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - One victory for the North Bullitt Eagles seemed like a month ago early last week as the green and gold dropped two more games, leaving head coach Lee Barger frustrated.

    It was just the previous Friday night that the Eagles beat Southern, the number one seed for the upcoming 24th District Tournament. Since that night, North Bullitt lost three straight games in four days, erasing all the positive thoughts from that earlier outcome.

  • East squads stay hot with two more important wins

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Two nights equaled two wins for the Bullitt East basketball programs over Holy Cross.

    On Monday, it was the Lady Chargers that traveled into Jefferson County and beat the Lady Cougars 53-49 in a game that was closer than many thought it would be.

    A night later, Holy Cross brought their boys’ team to Mount Washington and they were treated rudely on the court as Bullitt East jumped on top early and never looked back as they rolled to an 89-59 victory.

  • Legislators work on state budgetary issues

    FRANKFORT – With our thoughts understandably focused on what has been called the most widespread natural disaster in Kentucky’s history, my legislative colleagues and I returned to the Capitol early last week to begin the main portion of the 2009 Regular Session.

    We spent our opening days learning more about the recent storm’s damage and the unprecedented response that followed.  It has unfortunately claimed more than two dozen lives so far, and at its peak, more than 760,000 homes were without power.

  • UPDATE: County debris site to close March 3

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt Fiscal Court determined that an original plan to keep a debris site open to the public for months was not financially feasible.

    A decision was made to close the site, located at the Bullitt county Stockyards, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 3.

    The date was selected because it falls on the day of the next Fiscal Court meeting. Officials said further issues would be discussed and any necessary further actions taken during that meeting.

  • Lady Eagles are pressed to death by Presentation

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A poor start and a horrific finish made it a long night for the North Lady Eagles and a large homecoming crowd.

    Taking on Sixth Region rival Presentation, the Lady Eagles fell behind 8-0 after giving up six points in the first 30 seconds of the game. After rallying to within 12-11, North Bullitt scored just three points in the second quarter and fell behind 28-14. That was more than the green and gold could overcome in a 54-25 setback.

  • Central splits pair at North Oldham

    GOSHEN - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars stayed hot on Friday as they hit the road and came away with a 56-48 victory over former Eighth Region rival North Oldham.

    Lady Cougar senior Lindsay Hester continued to shoot well from beyond the arc as she canned four three-pointers en route to scoring 24 points.

    Bullitt Central also got 11 points from junior Qualeatha Bennett.

  • Schedule set for district tourney

    HEBRON ESTATES – The five teams in the 24th District met on Sunday and came up with a slightly revamped schedule for next week’s basketball tournament at North Bullitt.

    The two first-round games will still be played on Monday, but there will be no games played on Tuesday.

    After the off-day, the girls’ semi-finals will be played. The boys’ semi-finals will then be played on Thursday.

    Games each of those nights will be at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

  • Officials can't find hide nor hair of groundhog

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Storm of 2009 caused local officials to hedge through the ice and tree limbs like hogs in hopes of guaranteeing an early Spring.

    Warmer winter weather is determined, as everyone knows, by Bullitt County’s own official groundhog, Nichols Nick.

    With possibly the worst overall storm damage in county history, officials hoped to guarantee better future weather by controlling the Nichols Nick forecast.

  • Woman indicted for rape, sodomy

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - A Hillview woman has been indicted for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a teenager she was supposed to be caring for.

    Jessica D. Smith, 26, of Louisville, has been indicted by the Bullitt County Grand Jury on charges of rape and sodomy.

    Both are Class D felonies punishable by 1-5 years in prison.

    Smith was allegedly babysitting a male juvenile less than 16 years of age from December 2007 through May 12, 2008. She was a friend of the family.

    During that time, she allegedly had sexual intercourse.

  • Mistrial in murder case as jury panel down to 11

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Defendant Steven Hallman and the family of Kimberly Nicole Hallman will have to wait a little longer to learn about the verdict in the 22-year-old's shooting death.

    Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress declared a mistrial on Tuesday afternoon.

    The indictment charged Hallman with the murder of his wife on Oct. 13, 2007.

    As is customary with most jury trials, more than the ultimate jury of 12 members is selected. In this case, 14 jurors were selected from the jury pool.
