  • Kentucky 4-H celebrates 100th year

    Since its inception in 1909, the 4-H program in Kentucky has helped shape the state’s youth into productive, contributing members of society. Over the years, the organization has transformed to meet the needs of generations of young people. As the 4-H program in Kentucky celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2009, now is a good time to reflect on organization’s past accomplishments and plan for the future.

  • Two charged in Hillview, Louisville robberies

    HILLVIEW - Two men were arrested Tuesday on multiple robbery charges in Bullitt and Jefferson Counties.

    Eric Wade, 24, of Hillview and a 16-year-old Shively juvenile were taken into custody by Louisville Metro Police.

    Hillview Police Det. Justin Nally said the arrests were made soon after Hillview patrol units spotted the two suspects during a routine suspicious person report Sunday evening.

    Nally said officers collected data from the suspects, who were spotted outside an abandoned rental house in Hillview within close proximity of Wade's residence.

  • Man pleads guilty to 2008 Bullitt meth bust

    LOUISVILLE - A Louisville man arrested in Bullitt County pled guilty to possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced Tuesday.

    Jose Pizarro, 36, admitted that on August 9, 2008, an individual cooperating with the Bullitt County Drug Task Force arranged for him to deliver approximately one pound of methamphetamine to a Bullitt County residence.

  • Do all women need folic acid?

    Most people think that only women who are pregnant or women who are thinking about pregnancy should have folic acid in their diet.

    Not true, all women should aim to get at least 400 micrograms (400mcg) of folic acid each day.

    Folic acid might also have other benefits for men and women of any age.

    Some studies show that folic acid might help prevent heart disease, stroke, some cancers, and possibly Alzheimer’s disease.

    Over the course of the next few weeks, you will see various pictures and read several governmental stories about the new faces who are serving.

    January marks the beginning of a term of public service for some. It also marks the end of public service - at least for the time being - for others.

    Without trying to name each person who left office at the end of December for fear of leaving someone out, we send our thanks.

  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of January 25

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled for the week of January 25:

    Jefferson County:

    Interstate 64:  The entrance and exit ramps at Ninth Street will be closed Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1, from 5:00-9:00 a.m. The interstate will be closed in both directions intermittently, up to 15 minutes at a time, at mile point 3.8 (Ninth Street interchange).  These closures will allow for utility work.

  • House gets leadership in order for new session

    FRANKFORT - Changes in leadership and committee memberships came to the Kentucky House of Representatives during the first week of the 2009 Regular Session, as the chamber elected a former longtime House Majority Floor Leader as its new Speaker and welcomed nine new lawmakers to the fold.

    Rep. Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, began his first term as House Speaker on Wednesday the 100-member body elected him to the top House post.

  • Work on I-65 cable barriers begin in Bullitt, Hart

    CLERMONT - Installation of median cable barriers on Interstate 65 has started on certain sections of Bullitt and Hart counties over the next two months.

    The job will cause minimal traffic interruptions aside from sporadic shoulder closures, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials.

    A separate guardrail replacement project has also started between Elizabethtown and the Bullitt County line, which could also cause some temporary closures of the northbound lanes.

  • Kelty’s shot at :05 lifts East past North Hardin 71-69

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A three-pointer by senior Adam Kelty with five seconds remaining gave the Bullitt East Chargers their most impressive victory of the season on Saturday as the red and gold slipped past North Hardin 71-69 in the Outback Steakhouse 5th/6th Region Challenge.

    The victory saved the day for Bullitt County in the three-game showcase that pitted the local teams against three squads from Hardin County. In the first game, North Bullitt was ambushed by John Hardin 74-30. After the Bullitt East win, Bullitt Central fell to Central Hardin 103-69.
