  • BULLITT COUNTY ROADWORK: Week of January 25

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled for the week of January 25:

    Jefferson County:

    Interstate 64:  The entrance and exit ramps at Ninth Street will be closed Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1, from 5:00-9:00 a.m. The interstate will be closed in both directions intermittently, up to 15 minutes at a time, at mile point 3.8 (Ninth Street interchange).  These closures will allow for utility work.

  • House gets leadership in order for new session

    FRANKFORT - Changes in leadership and committee memberships came to the Kentucky House of Representatives during the first week of the 2009 Regular Session, as the chamber elected a former longtime House Majority Floor Leader as its new Speaker and welcomed nine new lawmakers to the fold.

    Rep. Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, began his first term as House Speaker on Wednesday the 100-member body elected him to the top House post.

  • Work on I-65 cable barriers begin in Bullitt, Hart

    CLERMONT - Installation of median cable barriers on Interstate 65 has started on certain sections of Bullitt and Hart counties over the next two months.

    The job will cause minimal traffic interruptions aside from sporadic shoulder closures, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials.

    A separate guardrail replacement project has also started between Elizabethtown and the Bullitt County line, which could also cause some temporary closures of the northbound lanes.

  • Kelty’s shot at :05 lifts East past North Hardin 71-69

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A three-pointer by senior Adam Kelty with five seconds remaining gave the Bullitt East Chargers their most impressive victory of the season on Saturday as the red and gold slipped past North Hardin 71-69 in the Outback Steakhouse 5th/6th Region Challenge.

    The victory saved the day for Bullitt County in the three-game showcase that pitted the local teams against three squads from Hardin County. In the first game, North Bullitt was ambushed by John Hardin 74-30. After the Bullitt East win, Bullitt Central fell to Central Hardin 103-69.

  • Lady Cougars stay hot, beat NB for a second time

    HEBRON ESTATES - For a team whose calling card is normally high-scoring offense, Friday’s 44-29 victory by Bullitt Central over arch-rival North Bullitt had Lady Cougar head coach Bryan Bates talking about defense.

    The difference in the game came in the second quarter when the Lady Cougars allowed zero points. From a 9-5 advantage midway through the first quarter, Bullitt Central ran out to a 26-6 lead at halftime, pretty much sealing the win.

  • Charger boys and girls are riding nice winning streaks

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Both of the Bullitt East basketball teams went on the road last Tuesday to face former Eighth Region foes and after the results both teams probably wish they were still in that region.

    In the girls’ game, Bullitt East had a dominating performance as they beat former rival Shelby County 63-43. The Lady Charges had a 13-point scoring advantage in the third quarter and then coasted to the win, the team’s seventh straight win in January.

  • Lady Cougars win fourth straight; Southern beats BC

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - After a slight bump in the road to start the new year, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars pushed their winning streak to four games on Tuesday with an 86-26 romp past 24th District rival Southern.

    The victory moved the Lady Cougars a step closer to a winner-take-all game against Bullitt East on Feb. 6 in Shepherdsville for the top seed in the 24th District Tournament which will be held the last week of February at North Bullitt.

  • LIT a tough rock for the Eagles to crack Tuesday

    LOUISVILLE - The North Bullitt Eagles’ first trip to the Boys’ Louisville Invitational Tournament was a short and sour affair as the green and gold were eliminated on Tuesday with a 67-23 loss to the Trinity Shamrocks.

    As he had done four years ago in a 24th District upset for Fairdale, North Bullitt head coach Lee Barger drew up a game plan that called for the Eagles to hold the ball against a more talented foe. Unfortunately, that plan didn’t work this time, mainly because Trinity scored two baskets before North Bullitt ever got the ball over half-court.

  • Bullitt Central sweeps pair of games from North

    HEBRON ESTATES - The Bullitt Central Cougars’ new look and new attitude picked up victory number one on Friday as the maroon and gray run and gunned their way past the North Bullitt Eagles 84-82.

    This was the third meeting of the season between the two rivals, but it was by far the most offensive. Three weeks earlier, in the seventh-place game of a tournament at LaRue County, North Bullitt had pulled out a 52-51 win. Bullitt Central won the earlier regular season contest 78-60.

  • Lady Chargers pull away late

    HEBRON ESTATES - After a slow start, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers found the correct gear on Friday, pulling away from arch-rival North Bullitt over the last three quarters to win 71-43.

    While this has been a heated rivalry over the past few seasons, this was not expected to be a close contest. North Bullitt has won just five games this season and they were riding a seven-game losing streak.

    Bullitt East on the other hand had won seven straight games and is ranked third in the powerful Sixth Region.
