  • Dafler to represent county at state fair pageant with positive attitude

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

    This is Miss Bullitt County Fair 2008 Danielle Dafler’s mantra before going on stage in any pageant.

    Over and over she repeats these words in her thoughts to reassure herself and calm her nerves.

    These words are simple and few, derived from a children’s book about a determined train, but they have given her the confidence to succeed in pageants and in life.

  • Christmas at Old Mill Elementary

    Old Mill Elementary School had its annual parents shopping day out Dec. 13.

    Parents of Old Mill students could drop their children off in their pajamas while running Christmas errands.

    Children enjoyed food, candy, movies and a special appearance from Mrs. Claus.

    Filled with excitement, children awaited the special guest, Mrs. Claus.

  • Tasty Project: Cedar Grove Elementary

    Students at Cedar Grove Elementary got to build gingerbread houses during the holiday season.

    The annual project for the youngsters included some graham crackers and icing, along with a few milk cartons.

    The students involved in gingerbread making were in both morning and afternoon Kindegarten classes at Cedar Grove.

  • Sounds of the Season: Brooks Elementary

    Despite one night of postponement due to weather, the Brooks Elementary concert was a success.

    Brooks students performed Christmas-related songs, some with instruments and others with choreographed dance steps.

    Prior to the show, children visited with Santa Claus.

    The show was directed by Brooks Music and Arts instructor Krista Mueller.

  • Sounds of the Season: Bullitt Central Chorus

    The annual Bullitt Central High School Concert Choir Winter Benefit Concert took place at Shepherdsville First Baptist Church.

    Despite missing a few members due to illness, the choir received a favorable ovation.

    One of this year's highlights included a production of the classic Christmas tune, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," acted out by the performers while they sang.

    North Bullitt boys’ basketball coach Lee Barger accepts a check from Depp Rasner of Deppster’s Studio for the Sarah Major Barger Memorial Scholarship Fund which the coach set up to honor his mother.

    The scholarship will be awarded to the Eagle student who best exemplifies a commitment to achieve excellence in academia, athletics and community service.

    FRANKFORT – The Kentucky General Assembly convened its 2009 Regular Session last week, with more than 200 bills already filed and more on the way.

    During this odd-year “short” session, legislators will meet for 30 days.

    Already, I have been awarded a position as the Chairman on the Senate Licensing, occupations, and Administrative Regulations Committee.

  • Educators sing praise of monthly early release days

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Any rumblings board members or superintendent Keith Davis may hear about the monthly two-hour early release of students might be alleviated after Tuesday evening.

    For an hour, educators from around the district trumpeted the successes seen in just the first four two-hour blocks where teachers have uninterrupted time to work on providing students better educations in Bullitt County.

    Part of the first quarterly educational assessment meeting of the new year dealt with the results of the early release days, which are the second Wednesdays of each month.
