  • One arrested on Sunday blaze; arson charged

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A man has been charged with intentionally setting his home on fire on Sunday afternoon.

    According to Det. Buddy Stump of the Mount Washington Police Department, Larry W. Sepulvado, 27, is charged with one count of arson and 18 counts of wanton endangerment.

    Stump said the police were called out about 5:11 p.m. on Sunday to assist the Mount Washington Fire Department at 565 Heritage Way.

    While rare that police are called out, Stump said there was something firefighters felt was suspicious at Sepulvado's home.

    No one was injured.

  • Outback 5th/6th Region showcase Saturday at BE

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – The Bullitt County girls did it two weeks ago and this Saturday it will be the boys turn to showcase local basketball as all three of the area programs will converge on Bullitt East for the Outback Steakhouse 5th/6th Challenge.

    The first-year event is the brain child of Bullitt East head coach Troy Barr to highlight local basketball.

    Fans can see all three of the local teams for one admission price against three teams from the Fifth Region. Actually, this year, the three opponents are from Hardin County.

  • Santa, I've been real good this year

    Matthew Smothers was one of dozens of youngsters who visited a local school during the holiday season to talk with Santa.

    Smothers, 8, stopped by Nichols Elementary recently to give Santa his list of eishes for Christmas morning.

  • Adult ed, school system earn OASIS

    Two Bullitt County Public School staff members have been honored with Outstanding Achievement in School Information Services (OASIS) awards for district publicity.

    Adult and Community Education Secretary Valinda Reed received Second Place in the category of External Publications - Full Color for the Fall 2007 Bullitt County Community catalogue.

  • NB-BC play round two, but not exactly in the spotlight

    HODGENVILLE - Any port in a storm.

    That is the way that both North Bullitt and Bullitt Central looked at Tuesday's meeting in the seventh-place game of the National Guard Holiday Classic at LaRue County High School.

    Each of the local teams is struggling mightily this season and the outcomes from the first two days of the eight-team tournament had not improved their outlook. Each team had just one win this season coming into the contest.

  • Southern stuns Chargers; Lady Chargers win big

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - With a chance to take a huge step toward the top seed in the 24th District Tournament, the Bullitt East Chargers instead put themselves in a dangerous hole on Tuesday when they lost a 65-60 decision to Southern.

    Coach Troy Barr's team was the only undefeated team remaining in the boys' bracket and the Chargers had already beaten the Trojans 61-46 less than a month earlier in Jefferson County.

  • Seneca pulls away late to upset Lady Cougars; BC boys drop two

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars were flying high coming off a championship in their second holiday tournament, the Lady Wolverine Classic in Frankfort, but since returning home, life has become complicated for coach Bryan Bates’ team.

    First, there was a 52-46 loss to Ballard in the Bullitt County Challenge and on Tuesday it got more frustrating as the Lady Cougars were knocked off at home by Seneca 57-42.

  • Robison closes out 11 years of growth on Bullitt School Board

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was a bit ironic that during his final meeting as a member of the Bullitt County Public School Board, Mike Robison would be voting on something he lobbied for 17 years ago.

    The Bullitt County Public School Board voted to approve the purchase of property for the new Brooks Elementary off Brooks Hill Road.

    For Robison, who elected to not run for another term on the board, was part of a group concerned about the safety of Brooks Elementary students and staff back in 1991.

    The interchange was growing and a truck stop had opened next to the school.

  • MW elections to have non-partisan fields

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – Democrat, republican, independent or otherwise – a new ordinance passed just in time for three new council members to take office has removed, at least on paper, partisanship from future city elections.

    The Mount Washington City Council voted unanimously at a meeting Monday to pass the ordinance which establishes nonpartisan elections without primaries for the offices of mayor and city council.

    Councilman Brent Wheeler was absent from the meeting due to illness.
