  • Bad weather halts some early season hoops games

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - It was supposed to be a slow start to the week anyway as area basketball teams get ready for the holiday basketball season, but bad weather early last week cut down an already slim slate of games.

    The one team that battled through the conditions were the Bullitt Central Cougars. They had an early game on Monday with Waggener that started at 6 p.m. so that game got played. The Cougars were then supposed to play Oldham County on Tuesday, but because there was no school in either school system that day, the game was pushed back and played on Wednesday.

  • Thanksgiving lesson at Cedar Grove

    CEDAR GROVE -- Students at Cedar Grove Elementary gave thanks by celebrating a traditional Thanksgiving event.

    Students and faculty dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans during the second annual school-wide event. Parents and grandparents were invited to attend for a traditional turkey lunch feast.

    Fifth grade students paraded through the halls in their costumes, speaking to younger students while remaining in character. Five students later performed a special play about the first Thanksgiving meal.

  • Board reinstates Dooley as MW fire chief

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — After hours of lengthy testimony and surprising accusations, the administrative hearing of suspended fire chief Michael Dooley ended Thursday with his reinstatement to full duties.

    Mount Washington Fire District board chair Melvin Davis broke a tie vote to restore the chief to his position, although it was unclear as to when Dooley would resume his job.

  • BC plays well against top foes

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - After winning its first two games in the Lady Panther Winter Classic at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars moved into rarefied air on Saturday for the semi-finals.

    The other three teams in the semi-finals were the first- and fifth-ranked teams in Kentucky in the pre-season coaches’ poll along with one of the top teams from Indiana.

  • Fees studied for treatment, no transport by Bullitt EMS

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – If you call an ambulance in Bullitt County in the future and then decide you don’t want to be transported to the hospital, it might cost you a few dollars.

    With over 30 percent of the patients seen by the Bullitt County Emergency Medical Service not needing transport, it is eating up a lot of the financial resources, not to mention manpower and vehicle usage.

    Under a proposal under consideration by Bullitt Fiscal Court, the free service might have a fee attached in the future.

  • Bounty of Hope on Christmas Day

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Tom Chamberlain’s Boy Scouts helped at the First Baptist Church prepare meals for over 340 people during Thanksgiving.

    He realized that nothing was being done to help those on Christmas day who might need a meal.

    A committee of members at St. Aloysius Catholic Church decided to look at what could be done.

    Bounty of Hope was born and on Christmas morning, he hopes to serve a meal to 300 families, as well as another 150 meals delivered to those who can’t come out to St. Aloysius.

  • Bombs Away!: Lady Cougars air it out against NB, Shawnee

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Connecting on ten three-pointers, the Bullitt Central Lady Cougars jumped on top early and then cruised past the North Bullitt Lady Eagles 64-40 on Friday.

    What made it hard for North Bullitt to defend was that the Lady Cougars wee getting strong outside shooting from a pair of players. Initially, it was sophomore Keoka Hilliard who bombed in long shots in the first half, making four as Bullitt Central raced out to a 35-15 halftime edge.

  • Sewer plant expansion bids below estimates

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bids from a southern sewer line extension a couple of weeks ago came in several millions dollars under the engineer’s estimate.

    And the slowdown in construction seems to also help in bids for the expansion of the Shepherdsville sewer plant.

    The lowest of 10 bids for the city’s expansion project came in nearly $1 million under the estimate of $16.2 million.

    However, city officials are not yet ready to award any of the three contracts in the sewer expansion project.
