  • Lady Cougars end losing Fairdale run; Boys bitten by the Bulldogs

    FAIRDALE - The Bullitt Central Lady Cougars picked up a key win in the 24th District on Tuesday as they traveled into Jefferson County and beat Fairdale 55-46.

    The win was the first for the Lady Cougars over their district rivals since Fairdale and Bullitt Central moved into the 24th District four years ago. Fairdale has won all three district titles since realignment, once beating Bullitt Central in the final.

  • Mount Washington looks at making elections non-partisan seats

    MOUNT WASHINGTON – Abolishing partisan city elections could be the last action that the Mount Washington city council is remembered for if it passes a proposed ordinance establishing nonpartisan elections for city offices this December.

    The ordinance, which was introduced by councilman Greg Gentry, would abolish partisan elections and primaries for the offices of mayor and council members.

    The council had its first reading of the ordinance at Monday night's meeting and will vote on the issue Dec. 22.

  • What does city do now on Sunday sales?

    The lights hadn’t dimmed before the question was whether the Shepherdsville City Council should be expecting a lawsuit?

    The question came after the city council approved Sunday liquor sales for Precinct 18A for USGA certified golf courses.

    In Shepherdsville, that means that only the Heritage Hill golf community would be allowed to have Sunday liquor sales.

    For the owners of the golf course, it really isn’t about liquor sales. That is a small percentage of its bottom line.

  • East ready for another deep tourney effort at King of the Bluegrass

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The Bullitt East Chargers will step back into the big time on Thursday when they open play in the Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass Holiday Tournament at Fairdale High School.

    This will be the second trip in the last four years for the Chargers. The team competed in the 2004 event, going 3-1 and finishing third. That was the same season that coach Troy Barr’s team advanced to the Kentucky State Basketball Tournament by winning the Eighth Region title.

  • Butler's hot shooting sinks Lady Chargers; Boys roll Rockets

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - The 2007-08 Girls’ Kentucky State Basketball Champion Butler Bearettes visited Bullitt East on Wednesday and coach Eddy Wilson’s team showed that they will be a force again as they manhandled the Lady Chargers 63-47 in the first big game in the Sixth Region this season.

    The Bearettes shot 78 percent in the first half, racing out to a 45-25 advantage by halftime and then never looking back en route to their third straight win to open this season.

  • Lady Eagles rally past Southern late; Boys come up short

    HEBRON ESTATES - It wasn’t pretty, but the North Bullitt Lady Eagles picked up an important 24th District win on Tuesday as they pulled away from visiting Southern over the final three minutes to secure a 52-41 victory.

    In fact, the green and gold trailed by a point midway through the fourth quarter before rallying for their second win of the season.

    “It was pretty sloppy,” North Bullitt head coach Bill Robinette said of a game in which his team turned the ball over 37 times. “We were fortunate.

  • Two with roles in murder enter guilty pleas

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Two individuals involved with the events following the shooting death of Timothy Nevitt in January 2007 now know their fate.

    Paul Cipparone and Kimberly Ann Moore were in Bullitt Circuit Court over the past week.

    Cipparone, 48, of Bardstown, was sentenced to four years in prison and Moore entered a plea where she would serve the next five years on probation.

    Both were charged with complicity to tampering with physical evidence.

  • A little wild turkey chase for holidays

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Citizens and local officials are on high red alert due to a loose turkey now considered to be a vigilante outlaw.

    Godwyn T. Byrd, originally from Browningtown, had been selected as this year’s official Bullitt County turkey. Now he is public enemy number one according to Bullitt County Sheriffs.

    The alert was issued following a recent Bullitt Fiscal Court meeting. County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts was scheduled to pardon Byrd as part of a special Thanksgiving holiday ceremony.
