  • Success continues for U-12 group

HIGHVIEW - It took just 20 hours for the Under-12 Mount Washington All-Stars to start what they hope is a long journey this summer in Cal Ripken Tournament action.

The flagship group of kids for the league in recent years, this was the fourth summer age group district title in five seasons for this core group of players and coaches.

  • Blue Lick U-12 All-Stars win district; head to West State next

FAIRDALE - Many of the members of the Blue Lick 12-year-old All-Star hadn’t participated in post-season play for a couple of years.

As 11 year olds, vacations and commitments to football didn’t allow enough players to be available to field an all-star team.

This year, the Blue Lick All-Stars made up for last year’s disappointment in a big way. The squad is heading to the West Kentucky state tournament this week at Germantown as district champs.

Blue Lick swept through the district tournament with three straight victories.

  • Blue Lick 10s fall short against Prairie Village

HILLVIEW - The Blue Lick 10-year-old All-Stars ran into a pretty impressive foe in the championship of the district baseball tournament.

There was good reason the Prairie Village team won the state title the year before and they showed it again on Saturday.

But prior to losing in the championship game, Blue Lick pulled out a victory over Okolona to win the loser’s bracket title.

In fact, the 10-4 victory on Saturday over Okolona avenged a first-round loss to their Preston Highway neighbors to the north.

  • Parks proposal: Let YMCA manage programs

SHEPHERDSVILLE - After studying the situation for several months, the Bullitt County Parks Board is ready to make a recommendation on the future of the sports programs.

But, before that final recommendation is made, the board is looking for input from the community.

A special meeting of the Bullitt County Parks Board will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, in the fiscal courtroom of the courthouse.

The public is encouraged to make its opinions known.

  • Mt. Washington hosts U8 & U10 State Softball tourneys

MOUNT WASHINGTON - Softball was certainly the name of the game two weekends ago as the Mount Washington Youth Baseball and Softball League hosted the 2010 East Kentucky State Softball Tournaments.

It turned out to be a heartbreaking ending for the Under-8 Mount Washington All-Stars as they finished third in the 11-team event.

Summer time signals the start of the vacation season.

Whether you are planning a day trip, a weekend getaway or a week-long vacation, you can travel “green” by following some simple environmentally friendly traveling tips.

    1.     Before you go, unplug unnecessary appliances such as TVs, DVD players, coffee pots and microwaves.  These items use energy even when they are turned off.  Adjust your thermostat and water heater setting to conserve energy.

  • Thanks, Boswell

Thanks should go to Jim Boswell and the crew he assembled over the past 19 years with the Bullitt County Adult and Community Education program.

Boswell retired last Wednesday and the program has kind of been divided up among various agencies. The Bullitt County Public School System is gearing its energies in K-12 and Jefferson Community and Technical College will take over the adult education phase of the program.
