  • MW's Lady Generals add to winning tradition

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - Over the previous 16 years, the Mount Washington Lady Generals have dominated girls’ basketball at the middle school level, winning all but two of the Bullitt County championships during that span.

    This year, after not winning the title a year ago, coach Christal Scott’s team had a lot to play for. The coach was well aware that traditional would not help the squad against strong opposition from the teams at Eastside and Bernheim.

  • In a balanced region, BE has high hopes to reach top spot

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - There are a lot of teams with high expectations of winning the Boys’ Sixth Region Basketball title this season.

    Count the Bullitt East Chargers among that group.

    In a season in which ‘parity’ seems like the most popular word in coaches’ vocabularies, coach Troy Barr’s team has experience, size and depth.

    While there is a lot of basketball ahead for this group to decide its place in Charger basketball lore, there is little to argue that this could well be the biggest and deepest team ever in Mount Washington.

  • BC shows new look, new life in victory over NB

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - When things don’t go so well, high school basketball coaches often make changes in the starting line-up.

    Bullitt Central head coach Joe Pat Lee took that one step further recently when he started adding names to the varsity roster.

    One of those new names, freshman Caleb Craddock, has provided a stabilizing influence on the floor, giving the Cougars a new look and a new outlook on the season.

  • Bullitt Central wrestling seeks individual honors

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – In high school wrestling, there is often a game within the game that coaches play.

    Yes, there is certainly the desire for team success. The Bullitt Central Cougars and head coach Josh Durham did that in 2006 and 2007, winning the regional title. There was even that push a year ago, although, the Cougars ended up third.

    But there is also the individual chase in each of the 14 weight classes. This winter, Durham will focus a little more on building up individuals as opposed to preaching team success.

  • Care facility welcomed into Hillview

    HILLVIEW -- A new business that is part of the national ResCare system has brought its services to northern Bullitt County.

    Community Alternatives Kentucky recently hosted an open house for its staff, its patients and community leaders.

    The firm has a day program and assists in finding in-home residency for adults with special needs.

    The company opened in a portion of the old Winn-Dixie in Hillview.

    Steve Hendricks, vice president of ResCare, said the enjoyable aspect of their business is to keep people out of institutions and in their homes.

  • St. Benedict youth help families at holiday

    LEBANON JUNCTION – The St. Benedict youth group collected food items to fill over 20 boxes for families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday. The youth group will also collect food items again at Christmas.

    Anyone wishing to help should contact a parish member. The youth will sell baked goods at Wal-Mart in Bardstown on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m.until 1 p.m. to support various youth activities.   • Santa visits on a firetruck

    ZONETON - Santa Claus will be traveling through parts of Bullitt County this weekend on a firetruck.

    The Zoneton Fire Department has volunteered to assist Santa in visiting neighborhoods within their own fire district.

    Santa and the firetruck will travel to Pioneer Village and Hillview from 6 to 10 p.m.

    Saturday visits will include the rest of Hillview and Hunters Hollow, also from 6 to 10 p.m..

    Last week Santa made appearances along Zoneton Road and Hebron Lane as well as Fox Chase, Ruhl Acres, Deer Run and Lee Villa behind Auto Zone.

  • Burress, Spainhour attend AOC course for circuit judges

    FRANKFORT – Circuit Judges Rodney Burress and Elisè Givhan Spainhour, who serve Bullitt County, participated in the 2008 Circuit Judges College held Oct. 26-30 in Covington.

    The Administrative Office of the Courts offered the college for Circuit Court judges and Family Court judges throughout the state.

  • County hopes to see more utilize prescription cards

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - With the rising costs of prescription drugs, Bullitt County residents still has a way that might save them a few dollars.

    Whether you have insurance coverage or not, a prescription card is available through county government at no cost.

    The card, which was made available several years ago, offers discounts at select pharmacies in the area.

    Administrative assistant Lisa Craddock told Bullitt Fiscal Court members that several hundred people have picked up the cards in the county judge’s office.
