  • MAPP meeting cancelled

        The Jan. 28 MAPP (Mobilizing Action Through Planning and Partnerships) meeting has been cancelled.

        Bullitt County Health Department education coordinator Cynthia Brown said the meeting was postponed due to pending winter weather.

        An alternate day has not yet been announced. The meeting will be rescheduled.

  • Local bank helps provide Christmas items for children in CASA program

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Children within the Bullitt County court system will have a better holiday season thanks to First Federal Savings Bank.

    First Federal hosted angel trees at their three Bullitt County locations this season.

    Donated items were intended for the families of 45 children being assisted by the Bullitt County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program.

    CASA volunteers represent children in court, representing each child’s best interests.

  • Public hearing on bus routes postponed to Jan. 28

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Looking for a way to get to Jefferson County but don't have transportation?

    Need to get to the airport but don't necessarily want to drive your car and pay parking all week during your trip?

    There might be a solution for some of your transportation concerns.

    A public hearing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at Paroqyet Springs Conference Centre.

    (The hearing was originally set for Jan. 12; however, a public notice was omitted by The Pioneer News and the hearing has been rescheduled.)

  • BC, BE grab wins at Girls' Bullitt County Challenge

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - Trailing by three points with just 1:15 remaining in the highlight game of the 2010 Bullitt County Challenge, Bullitt Central head coach Bryan Bates had just one option - call for a five-point play.

        The coach didn’t exactly draw it up that way of course. But the rare play was the turning point on Saturday as the Cougars rallied with the final eight points of the game to beat the Lady Hawks 53-47.

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 5 reports the following roadwork scheduled in Bullitt County for the week of Jan. 25:

    BULLITT COUNTY:

    KY 61: Construction delays are possible between John Harper Highway and Cardinal Avenue (mile points 19.4 and 20.1) for roadway widening.  

     

    KY 1494 (Beech Grove Road): Roadway is closed at the bridge over Long Lick Creek (mile point 5.5) for bridge replacement. Motorists should detour the area via KY 61.

  • Amanda's holiday creations results in spot in Southern Living's edition

    MOUNT WASHINGTON — Local florist Amanda Stephens Heck loves to use her talents to bring joy to others, especially during the holidays.

    That is why she happily agreed to participate in the 33rd annual Old Louisville Holiday House Tour’s exterior design competition. She said it was a fun project and good exposure for her Mount Washington floral business, Amanda’s Creations.

    “I knew the talent that was involved and I didn’t think I had a chance,” Heck said.

  • Schools not stuck on one type of way to raise funds for Haitian relief

        SHEPHERDSVILLE - The students and staff at Shepherdsville Elementary are collecting peanut butter for the Haitian earthquake relief efforts.

        Shepherdsville Family Resource Center coordinator Traci Gould said high protein and non-perishable food items were suggested by Waves of Mercy, a Kentucky-based ministry that assists Haitian orphanages. The ministry said peanut butter was an ideal choice.

        Classrooms will challenge one another in a friendly competition for the most jars collected.
