  • Leaders must work together

  • Thanks to supporters

On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the Eastside Middle School Cheerleaders held their 2nd Annual Golf Scramble at The Crossings. It was a huge success and we would like to thank the following companies for their sponsorship:

  • Let the traffic flow again

Since the closing of the Sherman-Minton Bridge, there have been problems with traffic.

  • Thanks to supporters

I am the Bullitt County Community Organizer working on behalf of a grant awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to KIPDA in partnership with U of L. Bullitt County was selected as a targeted county to be served due to the high rate of diabetes and obesity of its residents.

  • Smoking ban needed

  • Something to worry about

There is something to worry about. After the release of the worst jobs report since September 2010, the unemployment rate stayed at 9.1 percent and the stock market plunged in response.

Companies are keeping payrolls intact. They are not laying off any workers, but they are not hiring either. People that have jobs are afraid to spend money because of the economy. The economy cannot survive much longer unless jobs are added.

  • Government should act

Well, now that the cities and county governments have managed to stop the health department from doing what is right, I certainly hope that our elected officials will be quick to enact a smoking ban to help all of us breathe easier. I hope that this was not just a power play by elected officials to keep the health department from doing their job (protecting the public health).

  • Don’t get into scam

If someone calls and tries to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge or tries to con you out of money, do not go along with the scam, because that is what it is. They are trying to extort money from you. These people prey on anyone that will listen to them. In turn, you could loose everything you have worked for all of your life real quick. Many times I have hard about a person losing a loved one and falling in the trap these crooks have sprung on them by a scam.

  • Thanks to Valu Market

AARP Mount Washington and Bullitt County Retired Teachers Association wish to say thank you to Valu-Market of Mount Washington and their generous customers for the outpouring of donated food September 10. Gifts to our storefront collection baskets helped fill some of the empty spaces on food back shelves and fed those without enough resources to nourish their families.

  • Golf fund-raiser thanks

Bethel United Methodist Church held their 9th Annual Golf Scramble on July 9. Thanks to our sponsors, our players (22 teams), and our church family. A special thanks to Steve Peak and to Ronnie Atwood and Lou Ann Moore for coordinating the whole thing.
