• Think of less fortunate

Christmas is the most wonderful day of the year because it celebrates the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, but some of us think of it as a time to receive gifts.

  • Thanks from AARP

This Chapter of AARP would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual fall fundraiser such a success on November 9 – especially John Wigginton and Allen Peavler for their music and auctioning skills, Bullitt East JROTC for presenting colors, Kettle Creek, Bootleg Barbecue, Cracker Barrel and The Cakery for donating the wonderful dinner, and the Baptist Youth who set up, served and cleaned up that evening.

  • Gripe with jail phone system

I am writing in response to the letter in the paper from Beve Smith on 11-14-12 concerning the Bullitt County Detention Center. I am glad to see that I am not the only one frustrated with the jail. I have a relative in the jail and found out this is true. They take 25% of money placed on the inmates account even for old fees. I think this is not fair when they are serving a totally different sentence.

  • GOP won't abandon issue

For six years (2000-2006) the Republican Party controlled both houses of Congress, the Presidency, and the Supreme Court. During this time they managed to cut taxes for the wealthy, de-regulate the financial industry, and start two un-funded wars. However, they did not attempt to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Why was such a central plank of the Republican platform for the past thirty years allowed to languish on the back burner during a time when the Republicans possessed the resources to make a serious challenge to abortion rights?

  • Good people elected

Just a word regarding the election.

In view of the fact that Fox Chase has improved its council greatly, I am satisfied that I lost to younger and healthier citizens.

It is hoped that more citizens will take in interest in attending meetings and let their views of city affairs be known.

Thanks to those who voted for me. You will happy with those elected.
