  • BBB Warns Consumers of Medical Alert System Scam

     BBB is receiving calls from local consumers who say they are annoyed after receiving automated calls promising them a free medical alert system.

    The system is supposed to help protect seniors in the event of break-ins or medical emergencies.

    The scam has put groups across the U.S. on alert. The automated “robo-call” comes from a company identifying itself as “Emergency Medical Alert Systems,” “Senior Safety Alert,” “Senior Emergency Care,” “Senior Safe Alert,” or something similar.

  • BBB Tips on Giving after a Disaster

       The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be cautious of scam artists who prey upon people in need and those who want to help them. “Scam artists come out of the woodwork after a disaster strikes,” says Reanna Smith-Hamblin, Vice President of the BBB serving Louisville, Southern Indiana, and Western Kentucky, “and they are willing to do anything to take your money.”

  • County attorney reminds everyone to buckle up

     For anyone who complains about getting a ticket for not buckling up when driving or riding in a motor vehicle, here’s a crash course in reality:

    *746 people were killed on Kentucky’s roadways in 2012

    *Of those 746 killed, 592 were motor vehicle fatalities. 

    *62.5 percent of those motor vehicle fatalities were not wearing a seat belt. 

    *When worn correctly, seat belts are proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat occupants by 45 percent and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans.
