  • Homeless shelter

There is no doubt about it - Bullitt County has a Homeless Population.

HOUSING FIRST COALITION has been working very hard over the past few months to devise a plan to get in place a Permanent Shelter for Bullitt County Homeless.

At the Shelter, resources can be made available to individuals to get them back on their feet.

  • Where have we messed up in our country?

The media is pretty important in the history of our world and it is even more important for our future.

While community newspapers may not be at the forefront of the media issues with elected officials in Frankfort or in Washington, we are part of the profession.

All media -- although we are a bit biased toward the print folks -- plays a vital role in the checks and balances which govern our land.

  • Deaths should push us to organ donations

There once lived a girl who, despite every rock thrown her way, aimed to make the most of the life she lived. The girl had learned early just how precious life was.

As a newborn, the girl was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a disease that causes more mucus in the lungs than normal. The disease caused the girl to spend her childhood in more hospitals than playgrounds.

  • Memorial Day special time

While Memorial Day weekend was a wonderful time for gathering with family and friends for picnics, pool parties, and parades, I hope the true meaning of the event was not forgotten.

Memorial Day is an annual reminder of the brave men and women who have put everything on the line so we may live in freedom in the greatest nation in the world.

Born out of a wish to honor those who fell in the Civil War, Memorial Day serves as a nationally-recognized holiday to honor all those who have died in service of the United States.

  • May observes work of Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency

The month of May has been declared National Community Action Month by Governor Bevin.   Community Action has a history that dates back to the Johnson presidency.   A significant amount of services are provided by Community Action in Bullitt County.   Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency has been serving low income families and senior citizens in Bullitt County since the 1970’s and in the early 80’s evolved into a Community Action Agency.

    So, what is Community Action?

  • Time to put change in the Crusade boot

It is hard to believe that another year has passed but you can tell by the firefighters standing on intersections holding their boots that it is indeed Crusade for Children time.

That first weekend in June is the time in which Kentuckiana pours out its heart for the special needs children of this area.

Every penny collected goes to helping the children. There is no administrative fees taken out.

And, the money raised by Bullitt County fire departments will be returned to this community.
