  • Latest zoning proposal way out of MW box

    Way outside the box.

    That’s the only way to describe a proposal in Mount Washington to rezone a stretch along both sides of Highway 44 from the eastern to the western corporate limits of Mount Washington.

    The proposal would rezone all that property to B-1 Highway Business.

    As observers to the growth in the county over the past 20 years will recognize, there have indeed been many rezonings to commercial classifications along all parts of Highway 44.

  • MAPping path to excellence

    As we start a new school year, I want to take the opportunity to share with you news of a large step forward in our quest to improve student learning outcomes in Bullitt County.

    For the past two years, the school district has used the ThinkLink assessments three times each year to predict how our students would perform on the state assessment and to pinpoint particular academic areas in which a student needs additional assistance.

  • Court lacks courage on tax decision

    It is not the first time it has happened and it will not be the last. But it should be.

    Three members of the Bullitt Fiscal Court voted against a small increase in the real property tax rate. Two members voted in favor.

    The initial consensus is that the public would find disfavor in County Judge Melanie Roberts and magistrate David Walker for voting to increase the property tax by $2 for a $100,000 home.

    But we beg to differ.

  • Accreditation result of many years of work

    It was discussed over five years ago and it has finally been accomplished by the Shepherdsville Police Department.

    The agency has been designated as one of about 90 departments in Kentucky to have met the 167 standards for accreditation.

    It has taken a while as administrations have changed, as well as leadership of the department. But the Kentucky Association of Police Chiefs bestowed the honor upon the department on Monday night in a ceremony before the city council.

  • Pickling more than cucumbers

  • Over the limit will lead to an arrest

    Kentucky Office of Highway Safety issues tough reminder to public: If you are over the limit you will be under arrest!

    Unfortunately drunk driving is nothing new in Kentucky, and nationally is still one of America’s deadliest crimes, killing more than 13,000 people each year.

    In Kentucky last year, there were approximately 6,000 alcohol-related crashes, resulting in over 2,200 injuries and 182 deaths.
