Better Business Bureau Hot Topics: October 2010

Businesses Beware! The Internal Revenue Service issued an alert to warn businesses and consumers about an IRS e-mail scam using the name of the government’s Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) in an attempt to infect a user’s computer with malware. The e-mail claims a tax payment made through EFTPS was rejected and directs the recipient to a different web site for more information. The IRS advises those receiving this message to forward the message to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov.

  • Time to protect rights of hunter

With Labor Day in our rear-view mirror, and hopefully the brutally hot weather as well, most of us are understandably looking forward to fall.

Interests may range from football to festivals, but getting ready for hunting season or casting a line in the nearest lake or river ranks high on the list for many.

Native Americans called Kentucky the Happy Hunting Ground for a reason, and now more than ever, there is no shortage of people who love getting outdoors.

  • You can eat on the run and still be healthy

You know that eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is good for you, but you’re constantly on the go.

You can fit fruits and veggies into your everyday routine. Fruits and vegetables can be a part of a balanced diet anytime, anywhere.

Fruits and veggies are easy while on the go. Follow these simple tips to include more fruits and veggies into your time away from home.

On the Go with Fruits and Veggies:

  • Train wreck awaits on city's wrecker rules

Trying to do what is right may not always be the best thing.

No matter the side you happen to be on, any city that has gotten into a public debate over starting a wrecker service ordinance has been in trouble.

For some reason, the debate over wrecker services is a very big deal in Bullitt County.

Mount Washington has gone through the mess several times. Shepherdsville has most recently joined the fray.

  • Elected leaders must take steps to help bring more job options

There are many, many intelligent people in the United States.

There are many more intelligent people who have powers that the person behind this computer would never possess.

But with unemployment still averaging around 10 percent in Kentucky, and higher in many others, it is time for someone in Washington to look at the big picture.

        Jobs.

People need jobs. Jobs make the world and the economy go around.

  • Plate of change is full but how hungry are we?

So, now what do we do since the election is over?

We roll up our sleeves and get to work.

While the number of issues discussed during any political season are often masked by the negative advertising, there are definitely platform items to be addressed at all levels of government.

After we spend a few days getting all the political sign-ups picked up - those who leave signs for weeks, months and years should be fined - then it is time to practice what the winners have been preaching.
